*Waves at the internet world*

So, last week, [personal profile] naryrising was visiting! It was super awesome to spend so much time with her! And then last weekend we got to go to Webercon, and see a bunch of other people I don't get to see in person all that much, for a full weekend of gaming. We got in on Thursday and got to go out to the pasture to meet [personal profile] kennesaw's parents cows. Babby cows! Some of them will eat right out of your hand :3

Friday the games started )

I wrote another series of drabbles based on all the games I was in (we had 2 games running in almost every slot, so I missed out on some things), which you can look at over here if you like, though I don't promise they will make sense (and the Diablotin ones are spoilery, especially the first): Webercon 2015 Drabbles

The food this year was really excellent! )

Other than that, it was great to see people, and meet a few new folks! My game groups tend to not fit standard 'gamer' demographics, so there were more women in attendance than men (by one, or maybe two, because I think one of the people I didn't get to talk to much is a little more genderfluid? I know they are present that way some online by their partner, but I don't know them well >.>), and more women running games than men (5 women, 3 guys.... One guy ran 2 games). Also, all the new people were partners brought in by women who had been members of the core group for much longer. We played a bunch of Telephone Pictionary, which is always great in larger groups, and one round of the card game that [personal profile] kennesaw is working on developing. It is complicated but fun! Watch this space for a kickstarter some day ;) Some other folks played other kinds of pick-up games. We also watched a ton of Gravity Falls - it seems like each year we sort of unofficially settle on one show to mainline, and it was this year's pick. And of course there was a lot of staying up late taking about random rap and just hanging out - an exhausting weekend, but truly excellent!

Hello Internets!

I have been pretty busy lately, mostly with getting ready for Webercon. I am looking forward to it and I think the game I am running will be good, but I also feel like this is eating waaaaay too much time that I should be spending on other things. Like more active job searching, and getting a more solid plan in place for what to do if I haven't found anything by, say, May, so that I'm not trying to leave the country in a disorganized scramble with no plans beyond couch hop between Longpig and Curtana's houses indefinitely. I need some actual plans like say - what is my timeline for giving upon a museum job and what will I look for if that doesn't work out? Can I get by mooching with some terrible part time job for the short term and keep looking for a bit? How long is a bit? Where do I actually want to live if I'm not chasing a job in a particular elite industry? What, in general, the hell am I going to do?

I'm not quite panicked yet, but I am also not at all encouraged by the response I have gotten from anything I've applied for to date, which has ranged from more or less polite rejection to dead silence. I *did* get a notification that one job I'd applied for was reposted under a different classification. I assume they notified everyone who applied so as not to get any kind of hopes I have up, though it would be a pretty awesome job.

In less life-flailing (or perhaps flailing in a different vein), [personal profile] naryrising will be here *tomorrow*! I'm super excited! This is the second year that she's been able to time her visit to coincide with Webercon, but I'm only working Monday next week, so we should still have plenty of time to spend with just us, or visiting more casually with local folks. We don't as yet have plans to go and do anything super exciting, but I may drag her out to see a movie if there is still anything good playing.

I need to do some house prep type things tonight, as I'll be out a big chunk of the day tomorrow, hanging out with [profile] tethys123, eating pie, doing yarny things (I am going to help her card some wool for her to spin, and probably I will use the time to graft the toe of a sock. I want to work on some game stuff if time and toddler permit, as well. And maybe I can start unfucking my Ishbel shawl, which is totally fucked up in a subtle but serious way for about 4-6 rows of lace. *cries* But there will be pie (for pie day!) and tea (always tea) possibly in a fancy tea set, and we might watch Pride and Prejudice, which I am honestly not a huge fan of, but I *am* a fan of wet shirtless Colin Firth, and I like the idea of Pie And Prejudice as a tradition of sorts, and it will be something on in the background that I can mostly happily ignore. Tethys123 is a fan though. We'll see how it goes, again, toddler permitting.

Oh and yes, the sad. I am Sad at Leonard Nimoy's passing and I am sad at Terry Pratchett's passing. I'm glad they were both surrounded by loved ones and, in Pterry's case, a kitty. They were both kind of iconic for me - I used to watch Sunday Star Trek re-runs with my mom and my sister when I was little. And I still remember picking Guards! Guards! out of the the Science Fiction Book Club list out of vague curiousity when I was signing up and trying to choose all my free books (along with City of Bones, the Martha Wells one from....several years ago) and falling in love (with both - I found two of my favourite authors that way <3). I think I am caught up on *ownership* of Discworld books after this Christmas, but not on reading them. Maybe if I wind up living on my sister's couch we can start a (possibly Selective) Star Trek re-watch...

Today, [personal profile] sorceror asked me about games I have run! Well technically he asked me first if I had run any, but I certainly have! I'll try to remember what happened to them all...

Well - that got long! But here is your regularly scheduled reminder that I still have open slots! On DW|On LJ

It's been a while... I've been really busy!

Last weekend was Webercon! )

I still owe True Detective meta for the finale, but I didn't have time to do it last week, and now I think I'd like to re-watch it first.... soon!

I've fallen back out of the habit, just like that. Well, other than writing about True Detective stuff. I am looking forward to the last episode, but it also makes me super sad to think ti will be all over so soon ;_; I hope that the next installment is as good. I would love to pick Nic Pizzolatto's brains. And possibly find out if he has been stalking me ;p

But! That's now what I meant to write about!

Tomorrow, [personal profile] naryrising will be here! Excite!Considering I saw her technically twice last month, I am feeling rather spoiled, I tell you! We are goig to shill out a lot and watch tv and also stress about the games we are running next weekend for Webercon. I have mine a little bit more in hand now, I think, but I still have some things I need to write out and so forth. I have a vague plot outline in my head that I need to solidify, but mostly it is going to be just letting the players run with what I give them. I have, at least, given them characters at this point. Victory! The next thing to do is finish the bits that say what they all know about each other. Oh and probably I should give them stats and shit too. I need to refine my system a bit and post that as well. I'll get back to all that in a bit.

The other thing on my plate ATM is Invisible ficathon, which I think I have under control at least. I've got a few days to get it beta'd and posted, and I may try to do some other things as well, depending on where I am with gamestuff.

Other than that, what's up in my life is mostly work, which is worky. I finished the tiffany and today I finished the Mother of Pearl/Pearl Satinglass/ Pearl Satin Ware/Air-Trap/everyone has a goddamned different name for it, grr glass. Some of it was really pretty! Some of it was hideous. Sop very very hideous. I've been getting to play detective a bit though, learning about some of the less well known glass companies making this stuff. Like Phoenix Glass (Out of Ohio). And John Walsh Walsh (winner of more repetitive name. 19th century edition!). However today I realized that there are like 60 fewer boxes that I have to do than I realized. I've done almost 130, there are maybe 350? And a lot of the ones left also have fewer objects than the ones I have done, or they are not actually part of the collection that I was technically hired to do, maybe? I'm not sure. Anyway. We'll see how I get on with things, but I admit I am a little concerned about what will happen if I run out of things to catalogue :p However, I *am* signed up to take a two day training course on Crystal Reports later this month, which will be good to have under my belt even if I don't actually ever use it for this job. It is weird to feel like in terms of responsibility this job is actually a step *down* from my GA position, where I had more autonomy to take on projects and so on. I do think that it is in part a matter of having a different supervisor as well. It is a little strange to think about how long I have been working at the galleries, for that matter. I think I started at Stark in 2010?

Anyway, I don't have a lot else to say - just debating between trying to do a bit more game work or going to bed. Maybe I'll do some wind-down knitting. I had to rip back 7 rows earlier tonight because I can't count, and I still have 4 to catch up to where I was. *sigh*. Meanwhile, [profile] lonpig is down to the ribbing on the bottom of the sweater, meaning she only has that and the sleeves to go. It's okay though, she assures me it is not a race. First prize is a sweater. Second prize is also a sweater! Woohoo!

I apparently have good timing, as it started to really rain, rather than just spit and be aggressively misty, just as I was returning from walking Jola and picking up my Sunday morning Rudy's breakfast tacos. Nom.

I have chores to do today - cleaning the cat box, trimming the dogs nails, doing a load or two of laundry. I also want to work more on my LARP characters - if I can get 2 to 2 1/2 more of them done, that will be great!

I also would like to do a short true Detective drabble for Fan_Flashworks, since the prompt is Question. I want to do it form the POV of the cops who are doing the interrogation. Well, one of them. But I don't know which is which and only know their names from imdb /o\ Still, I should be able to manage something.

And I've also started knitting the sweater (ease) I am doing a knit-along with with [personal profile] longpig. It's goooorgeous and it is going pretty fast, really. Much faster than the vest (firelight) I've got going on as well, which is on much smaller needles on smaller yarn and has cables. I've got a lot of new Project Energy for ease, though, and I'm having to discipline myself to get anything else done! I'll probably ration myself out some in between my other chores and work for the day though, as well as knitting during game.

I am now almost finished my tea, and should get on with said chores, but I will leave you with some knitting pics below the cut )

So, this weekend I went out to Nixon to my friend Josh's parents place for a mini convention that he organized among his extended fremily. We had a spreadsheet for people to sign up for games and such ahead of time, worked out crash space and transportation for 14 people. His sister kelli is a graphic designer, and made us a badass supermetal logo :D And also a pretty pretty Unicorn one :D Next year, we will have a superbadass metal unicorn skull :D
