I have been presented with a dilemma! My gym partner is unavailable this week! Do I have the drive to go by myself? Hmmm... I think I do. I will test myself by heading down to campus after I have some lunch, with gym gear, and see what i can make myself do! And then on to my various campus based things I want to get done!

Going to do something with her tonight though, just don't know what. I was thinking a movie but there doesn't seem to be much to pick from today. At least not anything light :x Unless she wants to go see HP, I'd see that again. Otherwise we rent, I guess, or see if we can find something one of us already owns that we can agree on!

Tomorrow I am doing *something*, social in the evening, I'm just not sure what yet. Maybe I will watch an mst3k with my girls over the nets. Maybe I will go out to see an Irish rock band at the local Irish pub. maybe i will have an LotA solo with Cat and Rob! I just wish I knew so I could let people know :x but those are the order of my priorities, anyway...

I would like a do over of this morning.

First of all, I found out that my computer clock has been set an hour off for gods know how long, so I have been getting to bed an hour later than I thought! No wonder I've been getting tired so 'early' ;p

Secondly, this morning the bus drove right past me and another guy waiting at the stop without even slowing down once it passed us! The other guy called the dispatch people but there were no help. I hope she at least gets in trouble. Really it is not very hard to pick up people from a bus stop when you are driving a bus. That is kind of the definition of your job. Bah!

So I called Megan, who I was supposed to meet at the gym, and tried again. With not much better success, but even more wasted time. I got on the bus, but by the time I got to school there was a torrential downpour. Even if I *had* thought to bring my umbrella (and I note that it was hot and sunny the first time I left the house), I doubt I could have made it t the gym without being soaked!

Now I am at home, and after some distressingly close thunder peals, it is being audaciously sunny outside, and i am not impressed!

I know other people out there have had worse days than me so far, so I think we should all get together and petition for a do-over of Tuesday!!

Although since that isn't likely to happen, I need to find something else to fill my day. Definitely I will work on some more stories, but I am not sure if I should read some more pirate books or start poking at an article of my own... I also need to go through more drivers handbook stuff (went through half last night).

I have my Rigging paper pretty much done. It needs figured and a few details that i need to go in to school for. Still, I'll take it!

I have decided to only look at the top deck of the Elissa in order to keep my paper to a reasonable length, so I am quite close to beingdone with it.

I haven't touched the bahamas stuff in days.

In other news, this morning I went to the gym, then had lunch chez [livejournal.com profile] tethys123 - PAAAAAAAAAANNCAAAAAAAAKES! And tea. Yum :D Then we went to goodwill, where I made out like a bandit - a cute orange sundress, a nice pair of little brown heels, a pair of red sneaker things, a swooshy black skirt, a cool green skirt, and a nifty round wooden box with a brass knob. Woot! I continue to need summery tops though.

Right now I am outside on the laptop enjoying the summer and editing the Elissa paper. Good times :)

It is not even quarter after eleven, and i am wrecked! I went swimming and did weights today, and that is the likely culprit. That and impending bees. To give you all an idea of how pathetic a swimmer I am, I did about 18 laps in about 40 minutes :p And half of that was backstroke. Nothing kills my lungs like swimming.... and people wonder why I am so wary of diving :p

I finished Rogers, though I didn't get to typing up that bit. But that's because I found *more*! After he swallows his own jaw, they have to remove bits of it from his throat like weeks later, and then *six months* later, a doctor at Batavia finally gets the ball out of the jaw. He says upper and lower were quite broken. He also gets bits (yes, bits!) removed from his heel and is confident that he will probably be able to walk again ;p He spends half the voyage home in an exceedingly poor state of health - there are all kinds of references to him not being well enough to leave the ship, and being generally sick and unwell. I'm not surprised, with the being shot in the face and not having that sorted out for six months D: There is something of a dropoff in the number of meetings on the way home too, hmmm ;) Another bit that I thought interesting was where he talks about his poor health and the ship being leaky in the same short sentence. An interesting conjunction for a captain to make, I think!

Anyway, apart from that, all i managed to do was.... bake cookies! Surely this means that the ones from [livejournal.com profile] gats will get here tomorrow :V But I couldn't wait. I've been waiting on sugar cookies for*ever* now, and I needed some...

Wednesdays are such long, long days. I'm usually up too late on Tuesdays for any number of reasons, and tired when I start my day at 6:40 the next am. then I have class from 8:30-11:30, and class from 12:40 to sometime between 3 and 3:40 - and that is a discussion class, which can be tiring n its own rate, especially after I've been at school so long already. Lately after class I've been going out and doing all kinds of random stuff, which generally culminates in watching another episode of Rome chez [livejournal.com profile] tethys123, then either going to the pub or hanging out more. Last night we hung out and watched The Thomas Crowne Affair, which was keen.

Gym this morning, though I felt kind of crap after I got off the ellpitical - I really need to get my steroid inhaler refilled. I' am still tired. I am not sure what i want to do this afternoon. Ii've already had lunch and caught up on LJ. I need to start working more on my first Theory project (due the 19th), I'd like to do some writing, do some baking, and maybe start some laundry. I have game tonight. I also told Megan I'd type out more Woodes Rogers (*heart*) bits.

Shower now, we'll see how things go fro there.

It has been a busy week!

I had a presentation to give on Tuesday, which apparently went swimmingly. Tuesday night I had a meeting with some classmates to go over the readings for the Theory class we are in, but in the end a lot of the stuff we focused on never came up in class - i just hope people still found it was useful. i thought it was at least interesting. Wednesday was class, then more class. After class, I went to see babel with L'Annie, because movies here are really cheap, and she is a film person, and Oscars are coming up, and she and Claire are hosting an Oscars party, and so forth. What I am trying to do here is justify what I put myself through - that was the most seriously awful film I have sat through. It wasn't even funny bad just "Christ I hate all you people it is over yet!?" bad. I probably could have convince L'Annie to leave before it was over. As it was, she didn't stay for the credits, which is saying a lot because she always stays for the credits. After that we got food and lamented wasting time and money on that steaming pile of dogcrap. Short review: don't waste your time/money, just ask a local hobo to vomit on you and you'll just about get the same experience :p

After *that*, i went to [livejournal.com profile] tethys123's place, and watched another installment of Rome, which is fantastic. Only watching one ep a week is kiiiiiling me, as I am a binge tv watcher. And then we went to O'Bannons, because Wednesday is the anth pub night. I shouldn't have gone though - I was too tired to really socialize much, and on top of that we wound up being there stupidly late. Which seems odd as now I'm not sure who among us actually wanted to be there that long o_O. Anyway.

Yesterday and today were gym days, and I'm paying, oh, yes, paying early. in a good way.... I did back hyperextensions yesterday for the first time. Easy, too easy, until i realized that i'm supposed to be using my core muscles to pull myself up, which I wasn't doing. the next set was not so easy D: That was yesterday. Today, I bench pressed... the bar. Oooh, I'm mighty ;) It's a start though. And this with a bunch of other weight machines and such. I can't figure ou where they are hiding the dumbbells... Tomorrow, though, I will have major pains, I am positive. I think that I will leave thursday as a leg day, friday arms, and then use Mondays as a core day, if that's feasible. I need to poke around Stumptuous more.

Apart from that, I've collected and started reading the book for my first Rigging assignment. I'm reading A Cruising Voyage Round the World by Woodes Rogers. I love that man. I would go back I time and have his babies. No one knows anything about his wife - it could be me ;) he was hardcore awesome in a zillion different ways. Let me enumerate a few:

-Privatter durinfg the War of Spanish Succession
-circumnavigated the globe in 1708
-second person ever to capture one of the Spanish Manilla Fleet galleons in the Pacific
-Got shot in the jaw during an engagement - continued to give orders in writing from where he'd fallen on the deck for the rest of the fight
-Shot in the heel in a second engagement shortly after, continued to give orders then too and refused to be carried below
-rescued Alexander Selkirk left behind on the island of Juan Fernandez in 1704 by William Dampier, and who was the basic for Robinson Crusoe.
-was badass enough that William Dampier was willing to serve under him - after Dampier had been famous for years in his own right as a navigator/captain/naturalist/etc
-successfully kept his crew in lone during the course of his circumnavigation, and handily dealt with the few inevitable mutinies that arose
-had a relative;y low death rate for a circumnavigation
-Governor of the Bahamas in 1718 - pretty much singlehandedly responsible for rooting out the pirates there, more or less
-wasn't originally re-employed as governor, but was so awesome that the bahamians petitioned to have him reinstalled
-was deemed incredibly awesome by many contemporary bigshots, including Hans Sloan (none of you will probably know who he was :p) and Joseph Addison (Secretary of State 1711-1718) and such
-had an awesome personal/familial motto - Dum Sipro, Spero - While I Breathe I Hope
-was generally a great navigator, and leader

Eta
-not a bad looking gent neither ;) You can even just about make out the scar on his left cheek where he was shot
-did I mention that he swallowed part of his own jaw after that wounding? Hardcore! D:

Anyway, he was right awesome. I read 100 pages today, and hope to be done the book by Sunday. Tonight i am going to finish and hopefully post my latest section of Shadows, damnit! I can't believe it is taking so long. I blame the fact that I'm getting better at timing when I have to catch the bus, and the fact that it is cold not motivating me to go early to get more writing done :p

First off, happy Birthday to Maximus Rex - kingly king of all the Maxes, who might also be kick of the slackers if he could ever bother getting around to it, and who is probably actually too lazy to read LJ anymore ^-^

Secondly, yay, I also got a postcard from Daniel, which probably came yesterday but I didn't check my mail until about 10 min ago :) Woot! mail is good. i need to send more of it.

Thirdly, I just got back from the gym with Megan and oy, I'm going to be sore (in a good way, I hope), tomorrow. Now I am going to have lunch, then take a shower, and get back to tackling the Villefranche wreck. Possibly put my eyes out with pointy sticks.

I also want to try making crock pot beans today, using my sister's recipe, minus the ham, which I hate. Alas I have no onion. perhaps later I will take a break and obtain one. Last night I made hot fudge pudding, for instant chocolate gratification, but I may do more baking later. I'd like to have something to bring to movie night, and something to snack on for myself.

In other news, in addition to writing everyday (which I've been managing fairly well lately), I think I would also like to set a personal goal of *reading* everyday. I have far too many book on my shelves which I haven't read - especially academic-ish ones. Reading for class and class related projects doesn't count, at least not yet, but I may change my mind about that as time goes on... Regular class readings will never count though, because that will feel too much like cheating! Right now I am reading Pirates and Outlaws of Canada which I got as a present a while ago from someone. Great memory, eh?

Eventually, I will upload the tornado damage pictures from my complex. They're at least on my computer now...

I am having a hard time really making myself get back into the swing of things here. It doesn't help that I haven't had any classes yet :p

Things I should be doing include:
Finish my Mackenzie King scholarship application, which needs to be in Canada by the 1st of February (started)
Start preliminary research into the feasibility of working in the Bahamas
Contact Bahamas archaeology people (met some at SHA, I suppose that counts :)
Continue working on The Cursed Wreck, since I have it fairly well outlined
Study the Texas driver's handbook so I can get my beginners permit

I haven't done *nothing* at least. I've been doing some writing (though not quite some every day yet), and I went to the gym with Megan. while I was there, i checked out the schedule for various classes and such. Again, all the dance ones are at night when i can't get to and from the gym. But so are all the ones like Yoga or Pilates or what have you. Even Tai Chi. *sigh*. I'd like to be able to get back into dance classes, or martial arts, or something along those lines. Beh. :/ Not going to happen unless it is local or I can get my own transportation, I'm afraid...

In other news, I *did* get my papers back from last term, with comments and everything, woot!

Megan!

I have class on Tuesday morning and then pretty much all day on Wednesday.

I am thinking of aiming for a Monday - Tuesday - Thursday (or Friday) afternoon thing, maybe? I can't imagine that I'll have any energy for the gym after 3 hours of classes on Wednesdays, anyway. Maybe at 3? That would give time for putting in some work after class on Tuesday for me, and if we go for an hour or so you'll still have time to get cleaned up, have something to eat, and not have to rush to get to class. And on days when neither of us *have* to get up, we aren't having to get up at anything resembling 'early' ;) How does that sound to start with? We can always amend as we go along.
