I am going to try, again, to get myself in the habit of putting progress reports online. It isn't really more accountability, persey, as In don't really owe anything to people reading this (and you may or may not care), but I find the transparency of making my progress, and lack thereof, visible, helps me to stay motivated. Making lists helps me feel organized, in terms of things I need to do, and seeing things I have accomplished. But in order to not let this become an exercise in 'active procrastination', I'm not going to let myself post things until I have achieved something dissertation related. If I'm on the ball, maybe I can post something here every day! I'd like to get back in the habit, but probably for the most part I will stick to posting Interesting Links and stuff to facebook. If you read this and don't have me added, and would like to, feel free to poke me about it. Over here, you can expect more rambling and lists and occasional snippets about history and archaeology.

Today, so far, I have managed to get all the things on my to-do list *except* dissertation work done, because I got distracted reading/talking about a link to a PDF of a Zine about (sexual) consent. Then I made dinner, which consisted of a reheated homemade turkey burger patty with jalapeno havarti, and a peanut butter/banana/almond milk smoothie. Mmmm, protein. Now I am going to open all my files and then go walk the dogs. And when I get back, I'm going to play with data! And if I do, I get to post this, and if not, well... you'll never see it -_-

...~time passes~

And then I did some work! And found a fuckup, and a creepy doll head. )

So, yes, that's my day!

ETA: in the light of the day, the data fuckup was really not so bad and is all fixed up, huzzah!

I actually had to check what I had done at the last report to see how much I've done, bleh. I'm losing track - but I'm going to fake some optimism and say that it is because I've just been doing soooo much :V

Most of Greene and Morgan

still plucking away at NSF, but only have two sections that needs serious writing - which will give me 9 pages out of a total possible ten. I should probably beef it some? I revised a lot of stuff and took out some and added more I really did write more than just half a page since the last report!

Not so much this time around. Lots going on - too much, really. Need to be less social -_- Need to be less internet-y

So:
Read Jack Greene's Pursuits of Happiness
Read most of Richard White's Middle Ground
Read part ( a small part) of material Life in America
Read a smaller but proportionally larger part of the ship carpenter thesis
Wrote about a page and a half on NSF project Description, for about 7 1/2 total pages, some of which is good and some of which is less so.

I found out that I didn't get the Wenner Gren, which is not surprising, I guess. I'm not sure if it is better not to have made it to round two or not... At least I have comments to work with.

I really need to figure out what i am going to do with my project now. I really can't see me raising the extra ~$9k I need before spring. Ugh.

On the other hand... I think I need a dal to rally, so I am going to go read. Yes...

I think I'm going to start doing these again, to make myself more aware of all I have, and haven't been achieving. I'm not going to write out the latter though - it will just make me cranky. So expect at least one per week.

So for last week, then:

Reading:
Jack Greene's Pursuits of happiness
the VanHorn thesis on 18th century ship construction
first 60 pages of Material Life in America

NSF:
I don't think I got a whole lot done this week - I went over bits and tried to smooth them out some
I did start working on the historical background section to make it more relevant.
My draft summary is done, as done as it can be until I get more of the project description done

School Logistics:
Sent emails to schedule my prelims. have yet to hear back from any proffs :p
Also had bi-weekly meeting with Dr. H and set up a more formal format for the next ones. E-mailed her a reading schedule.
Talked to Kevin about prelims and such
Sent reading list to Donny, revised list to Kevin

HIAS:
Replied to some random e-mails.

Its that time of the term again!

Photo - I need to go through my pictures and pick out ones I like. I'll do this after I have everything else turned in :p

Shipboard Life - I have 5 and a bit good pages written, with direction on how I need to proceed. i think I have it under control.

History - I have 5 pages for this as well, and 2 of 15 classes well outlined. I have most of my major readings picked out, but I need to restructure towards the end so that I can focus on the Fur Trade and the French and Dutch in New York. I also need supplementary readings for all weeks and I need to put together a power point for one week :p

I also have to read this week's history text! I'd meant to start that tonight but got too distracted with other stuff.

Its enough for now, anyway. Ugh, why would it be summer? :p

Night world!

IM IN UR MANGER KILLING UR SAVIOR (thanks [livejournal.com profile] fortysevenbteg

Someday I will bother to learn how to embed you-tube lnks, but that day is not today! :V

In other news, I had a crazy productive and yet super laid back day. I did three loads of laundry, set up my sewing machine of sewing doom and mended a bunch of stuff (including both my bat utility belt and my bitchin' black velvet skirt what makes me the envy of goths everywhere), napped, finally finished reading a HSC, started working on my SHA presentation, and finished writing the first part of a longer story which is cetainly not OC Transformers fanfic. All in all, go me! Also, dogsitting Sammy the Puffy Foxling! Rock!
