I seem to have misplaced half the stuff I need for my camera set up, including my battery charger (I do have one set charged), my SD card (I do have a spare at least), and my line level (I might be able to scrounge one up). Their common disappearance makes me expect that I have put them somewhere 'safe' to make them 'easy' to find. D'oh!

I will manage for now, and just hope that the perspective isn't too off :p

So here is the list of things I did today...

-woke up at 8
-breakfast and internets!
-look over the 10 page conservation report I wrote last night (lots of pictures ;)
-make sure I understand everything they want from me today for artifact lookin' at
-write a cover letter, email it, and then find a stupidly cheap internet cafe to get it printed at ($1 an hour :o)
-taxi to AMMC
-talk to the AMMc ladies, which includes...
--confirming that my report is what they wanted (it was)
--going over the field catalog I sent them
--getting soil charts!
--looking through some of the Stuff to explain my system
--using said soil charts to get colours for my soil
--deacessioning said soil (i.e binning it)
--getting my letter! And having to get it redone because it said I had human remains, which I don't this year. Or last year, it turns out :p
--getting a ride back to the Hotel
--lunch in my room, and an old episode of House
--remembering I'd forgotten to get the check sorted out -_-
--trying to call, and then emailing my contact with the hopes of sorting it tomorrow
--catching a bus downtown and then heading up to the archives
--finding out that I'd messed up my photocopy requests, and having to sort that out
--getting a call at the archives from my contact trying to help me sort stuff out for the check
--only finishing one roll :(
--walking back to the AMMC from the archives (it is basically on the way)
--stopping on the way to write a letter (I was very careful with my handwriting, to make it legible ^-^) explaining what happened with the checks for the accounts department
--getting my AMMC contact to sign off on the letter, and giving it to the accounts people, who are gong to mail me a draft, i assume to school, since that is the address they have)
--walking back towards my hotel, realizing it was 6 and everything was closed/closing.
--Stopping in at a bar I've been to in previous visits to see if their kitchen was open, and staying to have a drink - a very much improvised Dark and Stormy, though the bartender/owner was amused that I knew what they were but had never been to Bermuda, where Goslings (the official D&S rum) is from.
--being offered free food (cornbeef and rice, omg sooo goood @_@)! Hanging out with some locals of dubious character ;) It is the sort of place where you get buzzed in to, and everyone knows everyone else, and they just get given food from the kitchen, and one guy I was talking towouldn't/coudln't tell me what he does for a living.... ;p
--coming back to my hotel and watching the end of an NCIS episode, blaming Heather.
--Internets!

And that was my day, so far! I still feel like I'm missing something in there, too...

So, since Larkin couldn't come out to the field, and she was going to be brining me my Shiny! New! Munsell Soil Charts, I figured we would improvise and bring back samples to test for colour when i got back.

Apparently brining soil back into the US is a giant pain in the bum! I kind of suspected it would be, but after looking into it more, I am not convinced it is worth it :p i need to have a letter or something from an approved lab (no one seems clear on this)... Of course I can't find dick shit on the USDA website because their search function doesn't work, and the site is huuuuuuuge! Bah! And the person I would need to talk to here is not actually available, of course. So, at what point do I just say 'screw it'?

Maybe I will email Mike and see if he has some soil charts kicking around the AMMC office somewhere :p

Leaving Harbour Island today... Taking Catherine to the dock in about half an hour, and I'll probably head out between 2:30 and 3.

Get to Nassau around 5:30, hopefully without any issues, and I'll be sure to let folks know how things are going once I'm there :)

I have a game tomorrow afternoon, but nothing much else to do on Sunday.... we'll see how things go.

Things are great!

So far, we have dug on 4 properties - Yellowbird, which has some material on an old property but a lot of disturbance in the accessible areas (4 shovel tests only); The Methodist House, where we had one day... really half a day... to dig, and managed to get 6 tests in), the Old Barry House ,in the old old part of town, around an exposed foundation, up into a gravel yard with lots and lost of chickens and some run down trucks (12 shovel tests), and Java House - another old house currently under historic-minded renovations (6 pits on two short transects where we could find bare yard, the second leading to where they found an old outdoor toilet (in local parlance ;) they have since filled in).

So that's a total of 28 tests! I know some of you who do CRM are probably laughing at such a poor turnover of tests for two people over 8 days of work but hey, we're actually finding stuff! Lots of stuff @_@ Lots of small things that require careful screen sorting - there is *Always* another fish bone, for instance! In addition to the piles of your typical historic small finds (glass, ceramics, bones... not as many pipe stems as you might expect...), we've found a handful of cool more unique things. The first (only @_@) day at the methodist House (MDH, as we call it around here), we found a cool little bone..... thing. It is clearly meant to be held, but its purpose remains enigmatic!

We found a cool pewter broach at the Old Barry House (OBH).... of course, it is in four pieces, but whatcha gonna do? Java House (JVH - do you see a trend here?) was especially kind, and we uncovered an iron, sans handle, the bone handle to some kind of implement, possibly a whisk (two pieces), and a fork! We've also got a handful of cool buttons, though none quite as snazzy as the kissing birds from last year.

In addition to digging the tests, we've also been keeping up with cleaning the artifacts (well, mostly... I think we are only 2 bags behind, just ognore that the last one probably has a hundred fish bones in it -_-), and mapping the sites. It is a fair amount of work, I promise! We're hoping to get one more in, which gives us time to dig, clean and log artifacts, and pack everything up before leaving on Saturday.

Of course, we are in a nice little property, right on the harbour, with a private dock home to probably a dozen different species of fish and other marine life, so there has been some evening swims, the lightning and star gazing, and the three evenings we got to watch the bermuda fire worm bioluminescent mating ritual :D

So that's basically what Catherine and I have been up to... now it is time for BBQ burgers and a dark and stormy. Or, since they have no dark rum and I'm making due with gold, an overcast and windy.

If anyone wants more info... I'll catch you in the morning :)

In Nassau, with minimal hassle, but a 2 hour delay on top of my 2 hour layover in Miami (for plane delay and presidential Delay - apparently Obama came in and out within about three hours and they had to shut stuff down while he was coming and going. But even though I apparently actually left the copies of my actual permits in Texas (wrong bag, fail fail fail), I had enough of the right stuff to get through, so hooray!

Tomorrow I need to pick up some blank CDs, and then hopefully drop off artifacts in the afternoon.

Hooray!

Less hooray is that there are other people computing in the lobby here tonight so i can only play online until my battery runs too low. Also, that the taxi cost has gone up quite a lot. Or my driver was a dick. Either way, ugh.

Okay I don't have any specific good news really - I'm leaving to go see Julie in less than a week though! Hooray! I think I am juuuuust about as ready as I can be for Underworld - there are a few things I need to finish/pick up still, but nothing the weekend can't resolve. I do need ti fins someone who can check in on Maze while I'm away though, or take him in if they are willing.

As for god news... Not a real god, I'm afraid, but I did get to play Scion twice this week, which is always fun, even if we continue to suffer from Chupacabrus interruptus :V I am less sure if/when I'll get to run my storyline at this point, but it will keep, and really it is because I am going to be off doing awesome things, so I really can't complain :V I have had some cool character/story thoughts also that are keeping me content :D Also there were tiny kittens! And I cuddled them mightily! And it as awesome :D <3

Ohgodswhywouldyoudothattome - Hazel and Jodie sort of tricked me into watching The Human Centipede last night. It is a horrible film. It is a horror film, so that is apt. It is the first i have seen in a loooong damn time that was actually disturbing. when I say it is bad, I don't mean, like Pumaman bad, or battlefield earth bad, I mean more like Cannibal Holocaust bad. It is right royally fucked up and probably not fit for human consumption. Sure, there are mockable parts earlier on, but it is not that kind of film. And, dear gods, they're making a sequel. I actually had dreams about this film last night, as I was foolish enough to watch it before bed, but my subsoncious apparently felt the need to do some damage control, and they were somehow not actually nightmares, and my brain gave me more opportunities for escape. Also, a weiner-dog centipede, which was, really kind of just sad and hilarious.

Good news - heard back from my accomodations in HI, and all is well on that end - hooray! Now I just need to get my permit :x

Almost got my permit app sent off, however I forgot to stop and print the colour images at the computer center, and then i forgot that I don't have a CD burning program on my computer. Blargh blargh blargh. I *could* bike to schoool and bike to the post office and bike home, in theory. In practice I have already biked to school and back and to the bank and back today and I don't know if i could manage it.

I think what I will do is have a little more 'down time', then walk J and empty sampson before biking back to school to print/burn stuff.

Or hey wait, windows actually managed to burn a data cd without exploding! Now I only need the printing. Uuuugh. Maybe I should just suck it up. I think I will have to.

Hopefully I will not die in the next 40 min to an hour ;p

....

Not dead but not successful. For one thing, I forgot the disc in my laptop here. I just got back from printing, so even if I hadn't, it is doubtful I would have made the post office, as it is now almost ten to 5.

Bah, meh, weh.

The bright side is that (so far as I know) I have it all ready to go tomorrow, and it was neither sunny or rainy during the times I needed to bike out, so I aintent dead.
