I had a crazy, crazy dream last night that involved trying to break into a nuclear reactor to make it melt down so that we could time travel to the future and so survive the impending doom of the world.

I really love my dreams sometimes.

This dream featured:
Xypharan - as our driver
Kit - as someone whose car we needed to steal for Reasons (mysterious reasons)
The Toyota Camry station wagon that belongs to the people I am house sitting for - as the actual crime vehicle
The streets of downtown Fredericton - as the location of or mysterious car theft.
Some Very Steep Stairs - as part of the secret route into the rector facility.
Xypharan's galoshes - ???????

I don't remember a lot of details now, sadly! I know there were a few of us involved in the planning. I don't know how this was supposed to work *at all* or what the calamity was that the Earth was facing.

I know we drove to the reactor several times along the Secret Route, which I can still sort of envision. It was along a footpath, and then driving up some steep narrow stairs. The wheels of the car had to be just exactly on either edge of the staircase for this to work and it was pretty harrowing. Xypharan was driving.

I have *no idea* why we had to steal Kit's car, but I was very apologetic because we basically tricked it away from her. Possibly we needed a decoy? The theft totally happened in the parking lot behind the Fredericton City Hall though.

I remember only bits and pieces - the drive up the stairs is the clearest bit at this point. I also remember when the dream ended. Xyph stopped the car partway up the stairs so that he could put on galoshes over his very shiny pointy dress shoes. I was upset because this was a *very stupid* place to stop, both in the sense that it was a very extreme angle in a place that was not meant for carts, and also that it put us at great risk to get caught! I got fed up in-dream and decided I would help him get it over, but the galoshes themselves were so absurd (the were the rubber shoe-condom kind of ones, only they had shoelace ties at the toes that you would wrap around the toe of the shoe several times, so that the lace ran under your foot?) that it completely broke my suspension of disbelief and I woke up.

That's right - I was fine with the whole 'cause a reactor meltdown to time travel' premise but the shoes were too ridiculous for even my dreaming brain to accept :p

I can actually poinpoint where a lot of the elements of the dream come from, at least!

Well today I was supposed to be doing ALL THE SCHOOLWORK, but that seems not to be so much happening, and I figured I would do a journal update instead, as most of what else I've been doing is just reading back through George Takei's FB picture album for amusing shots :p

So, my day started out concerningly, as I noticed that my dog was limping! I don't know if she was doing this yesterday when I brought her home, as I was kind of in a music daze, but I sort of think it is possible. She let me hold her foot and didn't balk at the idea of walking much so I don't think anything is terribly wrong, but it was still disturbing. More concerning was her desire not only to eat ALLLL of the grass, but when I got home, to eat everything she could eat off the floor, and her gagging/hiccuping like she had something stuck in the back of her throat. These two things combined led me to call the vet, where I dropped her off around eleven. Poor thing - she hates it so much I had to physically carry her in, and she was shaking :/

tethys123 was kind and generous enough to drive us, and since we were in the neighborhood, she suggested going to goodwill afterwards. And holy score! I got two really nice dresses, a top and some comfy yoga-ish pants, as well as a pair of Jambu sandals that looked like they'd never been worn - no wear on the tread, anyway. They're suuuuper comfy, and were $6! I'd never heard of the brand before so I looked them up out of curiousity, and they're about $90 new @_@ I realllly needed some sandals anyway, so score! Because I don't have enough kitchen gadgets, I also got a George Foreman grill with a bun toaster (hee) for a whopping $4.

After that we went to Blue Baker, where I had too much delicious food, as seens to be the trend of the week.

Tomorrow, Jola dependant, I am supposed to go to Webercon - basically an extended-fremily mini con with gaming of various flavours + hanging out with folks who can't all get vtogether regularly. We did it last year as well, when I created and ran a Diablotin LARP one-shot.... this year I'm less ambitiously running a changeling tabletop... which I still need to polish up. So yes, that's my life. Thinking good thoughts for the puppy (who I am guessing has eaten something she hasn't and has distressed insides) and looking forward to the weekend :3

Oh yes, I am also being stalked by kittens again - there is a white with grey-tabby patches kitty living on my back porch, driving Maze nuts. I caved and put some food out for her this morning. She let me pet her and meowed all friendly like, and was generally very sweet. Anyone looking for a kitten locally?

And now, since we didn't go to the gym this am after all, I am going to do my burpees and pushups and take a much needed shower @_@ And then... schoolwork, or packing (err laundry, crap!), or changelinginging..... :3

In other news, I have taken in another stray - this time it is a person though! I have a friend who is home-displaced for the moment, and she is living on my couch until she can sort out something more permanent, or until Merc comes back (hopefully get things sorted though!).

In other news, there is now less than a week(!) until I take stuff back to the Bahamas and give my lecture and AHHHHH I'M NOT READY D: D: D:

I'm working on it, though, and I *should* be ready. Here's hoping! Better get back to it, at that...

And don't forget - tomorrow is zorm day - the day of cheap candy :D

I was late getting to bed, and late getting up, so I still need to take a shower before I can lave the house, but I will live. I had a really awesome weekend!

Saturday, I went with a small mob of Anthro grad students to try out the Stover Bro's/Boys cafe/deli counter place in the Village Foods. It was amazingly delicious! One of the best burgers i'd ever had ever! Then I went and made Alannah Myles cupcakes. They were supposed to be red velvet, but were too dark. however, they *were* delicious, and very rich and moist. I uses a traditional recipe that called for beets (the second recipe on this page). I would do it again for sure, but I might leave out the cocoa powder and see how that affects the redness/taste. I just made my normal cream cheese icing, also, which is just a 1/2 C stick of butter, an 8oz brick of cream cheese, a splash of vanilla, and 3 C of icing sugar.

I wound up having to go to target to get a new hand mixer, and picked up a cupcake carrying tray thing as well. Since it came with a muffin pan, I can now bake 2 dozen at once, wooh! I took the cupcakes to movie night, where we watched Sushine (cool sci-fi thing), and the rifftrax of the new Clash of the Titans (painfully hilarious!).

Sunday morning, I went to the dog park with Jola, Lucy and Zap. Also, Merc and Jessie ;) It was awesome - a ridiculously nice day after all the cold we'd been having. The dogs ran around, I ran around, we sat in the sun and chatted, and all was generally speaking well with the world. I think we stayed for close to two hours! That afternoon was the planned trip out to WC mercantile with Zari, Ella, and Josh, where I picked up the yarn I need to finish my shawl. they didn't have the colour I wanted (a particular orange) for the middle section, so I wound up getting a variegated one that is closer to the rest of it. It will still be very pretty, but maybe a little subtler. And less orange, but you can't have everything ;) Ella also got some nice yarn to make a top she's been wanting to do, and Zari picked up a silk cap (a gorgeous golden yellow that perfectly matched the dress she was wearing), and immediately started knitting with it even though it hasn't been spun yet, because that's how she rolls. She also showed off the crazy-ass German lace thing she is knitting (if you can call it knitting when she is using thread), and there was much deserved oooh-ing and ahhh-ing, Okay, really, the clerk took it away from her and ran off to show all her friends ;)

Following that, we went to Koppe Barn, where I had a chicken sandwich, they still have the best fried ever though, nom nom nom. A weekend for fried greasy food, but whatcha gonna do? It was good times. We sat outside in the sun and spoke bad words around small children, on account of we are bad people -_- After that, I went home to walk JJ and had a nap.

And then it was time to get organized for game :D We have been working on starting up a Firefly game for a month or so now, and this was our first session. We wound up playing at my house, because I have a large kitchen and a table we can all fit around pretty easily, which worked out really well and I think helped keep us focused and more on track. Although one player couldn't make it (Shelby :( ) it still ran really well. I really like all the characters, people seemed to get into their roles pretty fast (omg I love the hell out of my character soooo much!), and we are aiming for an episodic feel to things (in terms of story stricture as well as general plot), and Josh really pulled it off swimmingly. A very promising first session. We even had a teaser opening and flashbacks! Fantastic!

I then stayed up too late chatting with folks after game, which was great, but now it is almost 9:30 and I still need that shower.... :D

Despite my lack of sleep, though, I feel pretty mentally refreshed and am in a great mood, so I have high hopes of a productive day despite my slow start ^-^ Maybe I will even remember to mail that solo to C....

I'm back - got in late last night.

Should get my dog back tonight/this afternoon. Have been scratched to pieces/loved to death by kitty in turns, so all is normal there.

Travel went smooth, mostly.

I'm at school, feeling meh - post travel blues. Hopefully once I start actually working some of that will pass.

I have the most awesome friends, and I'm lucky to have so many, scattered though they may be.

I still have no power cord for the laptop, ergo no internet at home. This also means that unless I'm at school I can only be reached "reliably" at my 979-696 number, and that I can only call people who have 979 area code numbers.

You know.... all, what, 4 of you? ;p

I would like to come and see y'all - on saturday! My dad says he can drive me down either Friday night or Saturday AM (for the maaaarket @_@). I have been offered a place to stay at the Robbinses, whch is super waesome but I probably need to confirm that?

What I really need is someone who could please drive me back to Monkeytown on Sunday AM to catch my flight, and need to be at the airport at 10. Anyone anoyone? Please: :3

I am at my dad's now, and should be abe to have internets even if I don't have my laptop operational.... *eyes her dying battery*

Jola is doing quite well. She is much less nervous around people, including strangers, and has been out visiting a few places. We've been going for long walks in the evening, which is helping with her hyperactivity! We were both up late last night, so even though I slept in for an hour, she is now sleeping again, and using my foot as a pillow. So cute! I have taken a bunch of new photos which I'll probably upload later. She's growing like a weed! Still no adult teeth yet, so I don't really know how old she is.

One of the super cute things she does regularly, though, si that she'll refuse to go into her kennel if she doesn't get some cuddles first. Serioulsy. I'll put her blanket and toys back in her kennel, toss in a treat, and tell her to kennel up. She'll come over to me (and try to climb in my lap sometimes, even) to get cuddle and hug, and *then* she'll trot right in. So awesome!

In non-dog news, tonight should be good - going to have dinner with friends, then watch Avatar, then have strawberry shortcake, and then watch BSG :D
