So.... with my paper half written, I an changing its focus. This isn't going to require a lot of changes - mostly it will better reflect how things have been coming out already. Instead of focusing n race/class/gender, i am going to look at the performance of identity more broadly, and focus mostly on The Shadow. Could this be because I'm 12 pages in and havent finished talking about the title character? Yes, yes it just might ;p

Anyway, I need to:

Load the dishwasher
Go pick up some groceries (cat littler, breakfast, something to get me through lunch and dinner)
Write like a fiend!
'Class' tonight @_@
decide if I'm going in to work at all tmorrow and let Catherine know :x

One drink when:
There is a talking tiger head
There a beam of light that makes someone invisible
Unnecessary touching
Anyone (mostly Lamont) gives their driver urgent instructions *before* getting in the car
They re-use science equipment/props (once per set per episode)
There is a fake Chinese person
A real Chinese person uses a fake accent.
The Shadow uses his cloak for anything other than fashion
Ceiling or floor collapses
anyone is Doomed to Certain Death

Two drinks when:
Margo says anything really inane and/or Lamont is patronizing. Follow up with "You stupid woman!" said aloud and enthusiastically. You can choose to do this every time Margo says anything, if you feel things are going too slowly.

Finish Drink when:
You see any woman other than Margo on screen ever (first time/character only)

I think that is all, feel ree to remind me of any I have forgotten! Stupid nurse, making my brain all fizzy...

This is mostly for me, but hey, maybe someone else out there cares as well ;)

I think I know what I want to do my paper on in my communication class. I think I will look at the different portrayals of gender and minorities in the a sample of the pulps, radio, serial (and comics, if I can get more than the one story I have) for The Shadow, with consideration of the different mediums and audiences. I want to focus on the relationship with/role of Margot "You Stupid Woman" Lane, and possibly focus on the Chinese as a minority group, if I can find enough/any relevant radio broadcasts. Mostly because they are so dominant in the serial, and because Showan Khan is one of the most prominent Pulp villains, but also because then I can talk about Orientalism :)

Man, I should re-buy my account, so I can have my Shadow icon back :/ I think it will be seeing a lot more use in the near future!

I found this cool little video clip that someone made of their own Shadow short.... It is really well done, in the flavour of the pulp more than the rasio show, but nevertheless, enjoy!

As if any of you needed proof that I am a big dork, I am all excited because I just got my syllabus (and assigned readings) for my Empires and World Systems class! Wooh!

Also, they are making a new Shadow movie. This is apparently kind of old news, but Sam Raimi is producing, and possibly directing. I am excited! And rob, who poo poo'd my claim that it was time for us to see another Shadow flick, can go eat a dick ;p "That was the new Shadow movie" indeed :p

Soon, it will be Green Hornet 2007 for real :V

I also broke my diet. This is not my fault, as bacon mysteriously appeared on a potato I ordered where no bacon should have been! Damn you, Potato Shack, and your delicious bacon!

I have a crapload of stuff I need to do tomorrow. For one thing, I have to pack for Muffcon. Which will be an adventure in finding stuff I need to bring *and* in rearranging stuff in suitcases! Well, since my bedroom is pretty much done, maybe I can actually rearrange *furniture* and put clothes away properly. Oooh! I need to make sure that my pick up is properly scheduled for Thursday, and that I have everything I need ready for my TO trip - ipod charged passport in hand, copy of confirmation number written down, all that good stuff. I am also going to the gym in the morning, and need to buy some extra paint as well. Stupid stucco increasing the overall surface area! So it is going to be a really busy day, basically. And I need to find the time to write for at least a little bit in there! Although if I am going to the gym, I can get some book writing done easy. Today i threw some more stuff at Cursed Wreck, but not much beyond a paragraph.

Painting is really draining. Guh.

In tangentially related news, Chaosium is also soon releasing a Pulp Cthulhu book, which is just creaming for me (or someone) to run that Mythos/Shadow crossover story....

I mean really. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?
