The galleries are now open and their new exhibits are up, wooh!

Well the Forsyth, anyway, where I work. The Stark Galleries is still installing their super awesome Patent Model show. I have walked around it though (I'm physically still located there for Reasons that I may write about at some point), and I have to say that it is pretty much a Steampunk's wet dream - all wacky inventions and aged wood and brass gears - gears that *do things*! It is really neat in and of itself, but I think it could provide some great inspiration for people who are interested in Steampunk stuff - I'll see if we are allowed to take pictures and maybe post some later if I can.

At Forsyth, these are the first exhibits where I have done a lot of cataloguing before the show, and I am pretty familiar with all the objects on display, which is cool. Forsyth has downloadable brochures on the exhibits that show a few of the pieces, which is convenient for my purposes since the vast majority of you are not local and are never going to be able to come and see them :p All the pictures in the brochures were take by me, so you can have a sense of what else I have been up to at work.

Here are some links to the Forsyth exhibits. There are links to the pdf brochures at the bottom of each page:

Come to the Table: American Pressed Glass
Aurene: Steuben's Iridescent Pressed Glass
(There is also a new paperweight display in the Learning Gallery but there's not much I can show you on that front).

For anyone who *is* local, the information on the Stark exhibitions can be found over here. Because they are traveling exhibits, we don't have as much online information about the objects, but we do have some nice brochures, I believe, for both.

(I am blogging from work! But I totally consider this relevant and don't feel a bit guilty >.>)

Went back to renfaire yesterday - it was awesome!

However, leaving was utter hell, and although we left between 5:30 and 6, I didn't get home until 10:30 ;_; There was hellacious traffic, then there was a drunk driving accident at the traffic bottleneck, and then another 'people in a hurry' type accident. So I'm behind on my weekend pans, hooray -_- Still, I'll put up pics on FB later - Neil has some up already. Also, kitty just jumped i my lap, so life ain't all bad.

Also, sometimes I love people.

Trying to read, or do anything productive tonight, has just not ben working. I keep falling asleep! I really ought to have been able to finish my book tonight, bah

Now I am having trouble making myself really go to bed, from guilt, and also, computer inertia. Probably shouldn't have eaten that bag of popcorn. On the other hand, i thought of a cool Steampunk persona, if i ever actually get off my butt and make a costume, and if I ever have a place to wear it...

In other news, Cohen tickets are wicked expensive ;_;

Boots?

Shipping would be $10-12. They'd be good for a steampunk costume I'd never get to wear....;_; But I could also wear 'em with skirts, right?

....oh the costume I would make if I had the money...

I'd have a brown leather pirate coat and a natural leather custom corset armour thing to wear underneath (with brass fittings), and knickers, and and and....

*sigh*

That said, apart from shoes I could improvise a pretty decent steam punk outfit on pretty short notice, I think. If only there were ever call for it!

My ray gun and goggles for [livejournal.com profile] longpig are coming along quite nicely, I think! I think tomorrow I can spray it to seal it and it should be good to go :o
