I finished listening to the Iliad this morning - it really was a fantastic experience, I am just salty that the version I listened to is an audible exclusive and I'm unlikely to stay signed up, so I don't get to 'own' it or have access to it. just let me pay money to own the thing! Insert rant here about late stage 'capitalism' where consumers don't even get to own products let alone their own labor. Grump.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it! If you are on audible and want to listen to a guy with a Shakespearean actor quality narrate classic text in a lyrical prose, and also don't mind graphic (graphic!!!) depictions of violence, I would highly recommend it. I might try an Odyssey next, which seems to be more widely available - but I'll probably do audible again just to use my second 'free' credit. After that, idk!

Meanwhile I will have a sulk that we are missing the full epics that actually covers Achilles' death and the sack of Troy.

Otherwise - things are fine. The heating is broken in the repository at work since last week, which is not ideal, but I'm glad it is winter and not summer. Heat is a lot more damaging than cold. Also I'm reminded that I saw that there is some cellulose nitrate in a new collection and I need to decide what to do with it. It's just a small bit, but nevertheless it should probably be isolated. I had a long meeting yesterday that I didn't really need to be in, but I also think that ti is nice to not have everything completely siloed, its just that my boss can't run a streamlined meeting to save her life. There was a bit of awkwardness in there too around some miscommunications, because she also is not always very good at listening and remembering context. I mean, most of the time she is great but there is definitely a solid percentage of time where I want to throttle her.

Home is also fine - IL's mom left on Monday. It was nice to have her around, and she is nice to talk to, but also weird having someone who is more extroverted in the house... or at least an extrovert who had any interest in engaging with the rest of the residents, perhaps. IL is still down in the US. I think they are out of the hospital but they basically stopped relaying updates to the 'family' chat so who knows. They were progressing really well in the immediate aftermath and probably still are.

I actually went away last weekend to visit Nary, which was a nice break. We binged watched the second season of Castelvania Nocturne, ate some nice food, and went to see Nosferatu )(second viewing for me) at the upgraded theater near her. It was one movie company that took over the theater from another and their base layouts are very different. the old one had their big concessions stand right in the center, and the new one just has them around the edges, so there is all this big open empty space... The old theatre also believed in colour (blue and yellow) and the new one is more 'no we are a Serious Fancy Place for Adults!' so everything is grey and it just looked very sad and empty to me. Maybe they will add more stuff over time. The seats themselves were very nice. They are a step up from the 'regular' recliner ones most theaters in the region seem to have now, with warming seats, and they all had the haptic stuff to make the seats vibrate and whatever, and had a butt warming feature. They also had their own little side tables, and the seats were semi-enclosed in a little cubicle thing with a place to hang up your coat. So it was nice not to feel too crammed in. Not all the seats were that style, but Nary splurged :3 Then we had our normal Sunday afternoon game that we are all in, and then dinner, and then home, womp womp.

I made a cake last night, and somehow under iced it but it is still quite tasty! And I finished my main candyhearts assignment and am just about done a treat, and then have to decide if I want to do another treat or start something else. And EAD decided to do a snake flash and I am having a quick little think about that, as there are some OW options and I could ask for that. But alas all the sneks I really want fic about are ocs :(

Nary is here again this weekend for more of her bookbinding course, and we have another out-of-town friend visiting as well, so it has been busy here! I did manage to get signed up for Space Swap at the last minute, and then it will be Jukebox, probably, so I guess we'll see if I get anything else written.

I did a little drabble for the tumblr Sexus Mini Event thing too, so hurrah! I have a lot of vague ideas for things to write but little enough actual motivation, for whatever reason. I finished off a couple of knitting projects though, including the Valentines Rattes for Nary, and most of two weaving Things. And then I have socks on the go and my Skara Brae shawlette, still. And the LARP socks which may not get finished before it is really unfeasible to wear them, but we'll see. I do have an event next Saturday, and its an indoor thing, so maybe lots of knitting? I plan to finish the rest of the weaving thing soon, but I'm into a knitted part of it and the needles are so big they're hurting my hands. Also the weather is not helping, and also I fell on my hands when taking the dog out at 5:30 this am, so there's a lot of things working against me :p One of the doggos is having some intestinal distress because she makes poor choices. She's been to the vet now, though, so hopefully she'll start to get better.

Knit night was tonight, and I'm now about 12 rows from the end of my second to last chart of pulled by the sunset. Nary met us there, so she got to meet some of my local peeps

I'm probably going to a conference for work! They might even pay for the registration!

And I got paid for my story today too! All around a pretty good day, and off to Toronto tomorrow :3

I don't remember if the last time I updated was yesterday or the day before.

Work has been odd. But I have tomorrow off (my stat holiday substitute for Canada day being on Saturday). And Nary will be here tomorrow night as she has a course on the weekend. I work on Monday, but then she and I are going camping for three days - with Jola. Adventure! We'll see how it goes I guess :3 Tuesday is also my youngest nephew's birthday!

I'm hoping to go downtown for a bit tomorrow. I also need to finish my pirate story, which I utterly failed to work on tonight. Instead - tumblr and gaming. Hi tumblr!

Work was worky. It is always a period of 'what am I even doing' followed by a period of 'omg how is it two hours later?' There was some stuff that made me displeased, but got resolved okay, and some that didn't to my knowledge get resolved but hopefully won't be a problem? Probably won't, but sill displeasing.

And then I figured out how to solve some of my issues on my own and felt good!

Tonight was another night of rushing around to leave as soon as I got home, but I did manage to cram some food into my system, at least. And then I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2! It was fun, and good, but not *outstanding*. It had some good moments and some stuff that felt less fresh because it was a sequel, and though in theory it had a lot of scope it felt very small. And I got a free comic and to hang out with folks a bit, so that was nice.

And now Nary is here - they are having work done on the house in preparation for putting it on the market, and needed to get Argo out so that he wouldn't bother the workmen, or run off while the front door is being repaired. Yay for me, anyway!

We're going to watch the first episode of American Gods, since I have Amazon Prime, and at least the Amazon original content is still available in Canada....

I'm in Windsor, and on my phone. I predictably failed to pack a bunch of stuff, but nothing crucial afaik. I leave on Sunday.

Uhhh, what else. I finally finished watching Daredevil. Yeah, I'm a bit behind... Jessica Jones next, then Luke Cage. We'll probably finish Rebels while I'm here too, and hopefully get through reading more of Dark Disciple. Woohoo!

Everyone else is in bed like a responsible adult. I should try and sleep and readjust my sleep schedule for starting work next week :3

Spent my morning faffing around the internet. but I have settled on my space swap premise at least, this time really. I also managed to actually order some storage bins and a storage Thingy (stand with bins?) for my room. The bins have a ridiculous delivery date of 1-2 months, but there's no real rush on them. Would it have been quicker to go to Walmart? Probably. But this is easier. I accidentally bought Amazon Prime; I may as well use it.

I went downtown and bought too much Candy. We were supposed to be getting stuff for Bubby's birthday party on Saturday, which was also achieved. I somehow lost a bag of watermelon slices on the way to the cash, so it could have been worse. Today was ridiculously warm, but it isn't going to stick quite yet. At least it isn't snowing! Yet...

Saturday is both the party and the LARP game I'm going to, which despite knowing both these things for ages now only came together in my mind tonight. so, that's unfortunate - I need to talk to Bubby tomorrow. I *will* be around on his actual birthday though, so I might promise to do stuff with him that night instead and see how that goes over. I'm such a jerk :(

In other sad news, Nary found out her grandmother died today.... She was old (97) and Very Ready, but still. That's also Nary's first grandmother to go - the other one had her 100th birthday last year. She's going down for the funeral, and flying back on Saturday... So she will be saying here on Saturday night! Which yay! But also Boo :( She's the third friend of mine to lose a grandmother in the last month, too.

In response to that, we had a chill evening, and she read to me more of the SW: rebels book (New Dawn?). I am enjoying the story and, of course, I do like the characters. It's pretty fast paced and the bad guy is basically an evil cyborg petty bureaucrat "efficiency expert", so basically everything that is the worst thing about "bad" management (it doesn't matter if people get hurt, this will make things go faster and that will please the Emperor) and also a psycho murderer. But Kanan and Hera! I feel like the author has done a good job back-projecting them. Kanan is the most different, but then Hera has been on a steadier path for a while. Then we watched a few more episodes of the show. And I got a lot of knitting done! I keep thinking I'm about to run out of this ball of yarn and then not.... but soon, surely. I hope the rest of it arrives soon and will work how I want it to!

It's been a good day - I'm updating early because Nary is getting in tonight and I know I will probably get distracted and forget, otherwise :P

I finally got my 3D print of the scissors I was working on done yesterday, and it didn't break when I consolidated it, and then today I got to wax them and hand them off to the museum director so she can take them to the person they are for. I also *almost* finished the report I'm doing form the VR survey responses. I can finish that next week and send it to the guy who made the VR Longhouse, and then get on with redesigning the survey to work online (hopefully).

I was able to pick some stuff up for my sister when her text arrived just exactly when I was walking by the store. Serendipity! It is also much much nicer today than it was yesterday - there was light fluffy snow this morning, but no wind trying to blow me off my feet, and it was overall warmer. I generously bought my sister some snacks as well because I'm awesome, I guess!

Then I came home to tidy up my room and do some vacuuming. And I discovered that my tax return had come in! \o/ It was Not Small, and I was able to buy the new mattress I've been dreaming of for months. I'm so excited! I got an endy, because the reviews seemed pretty good for my needs and it's a Canadian company. I am also earmarking money to get the next part of my arm sleeve done - but that's going to involve a trip to Toronto, so we'll see how it shakes out!

I also feel less bad about spending like $30 on Star Wars comics yesterday. The Kanan ones were pretty much exactly what i wanted. The Darth Vader one was okay, but not as good as I had been led to believe. Mostly I was sideying some of the support characters. You might think I would appreciate a rogue archaeologist character but she was so.... I dunno - fawningly self-inserty in a way that did not appeal to me, I guess. "You're so cool,I'm such a fan, I know you're going to use me and probably kill me and I'm so okay with that." Meh. And the overall plot was kind of meh? But Vader was well written for the story he was in, I guess. I'm not disappointed I bought it, but I would need reassurances that it gets better from that first volume to drop any more money on it.

Anyway.... I feel lie there was more, but I forget. But all in all a good day. And now the kids are home, and we're going to go walk the dogs so we can go to knitting right after dinner. And then Nary gets in later tonight ^-^
