Up north, where I am from, we had a helluva lotta snow. And now, it is melting. And Fredericton, my home city, is experiencing one of the worst floods in recent memory, which may top the record set in 197....8 I think? maybe 3?

Here is a news story with images for comparison. Right now the waters are 8.3 m above the river banks and may go as much as 8.6!

Fredericton is a lovely city but the fact that both the library and the art gallery are right by the river worries me a bit in time like this. I know that emergency services have been on high alert and active where need. fritzleonardt 's road has been closed and they're shutting off power to his area soon... And to a lot of places downtown.

So yesterday was kinf odf a flop. I did pretty much nothing productive, save some late holiday baking/gifting. I slept like utter poop the night before and I blame that.

Today is off to a much better start! I did go back to sleep for a few hours after I was up to let Samson out and answered some e-mail and lj stuff. but since then I have been to the post office, scoped Walmart for Starscreams (unsuccessfully), and stopped in at Albertson's to pick up some milk so I can make hot chocolate tomorrow morning to go with the pancakes I am planning on having for breakfast :) While I was there I also bought a single-sized snickers cake, as their bakery is better than Kroger's, to have after my asparagus and wild salmon I shall be having for dinner tonight! Yum!

I also bought a white chocolate peppermint mocha at Starbucks, so I'm sure I'll be pretty wired, which means I'll get lots done on my conference paper :D which is what I'll be starting on here shortly. and depending on how that goes, I may also do some other writing! Later today or tonight I am going to watch some TV with Joel (ps Happy Birthday :) and have the dinner planed above. Also some rice. I haven't made rice in what seems like ages!

Tomorrow, I will wake up, take out le chien, and probably open my stocking. Then possibly back to bed, depending on how sleepy I am. then open presents, dress Samson in mortifying Christmas outfit provided by Megan, and see if I can get pictures without him attacking my camera :V I may have to use the webcam. It s quiet and he hasn't seemed to realize what it is. And pancakes! And probably spending a lot of the time on the phone with various and sundry :D

I am actually looking forward to my Christmas plans, and I am also glad that Megan trusted me with her dog, as he is very fun to have a round! Maybe if I hope really hard Santa will bring me a mini-dachshund, eh? Maybe? Maybe?

Oh, and did anyone out there order me something off of Tigerdirect? I'm just curious who it is from - I haven't opened the box :o

Yay for free airport wireless! I think the Halifax airport may be my favourite airport ever. It is well set up, organized, I've yet to have any problems fling out of here, and it's just damned *pretty*. It has a waterfall! Snazzy!

Anyway, here is hoping that todays travels go much more smoothly than previously, even though i have to fly from Hell to Toronto, to Chicago to Richmond. It seems a bit excessive that it should take all day to fly from Nova Scotia to Virginia. but I should be seeing people tonight, and if I can sleep on the plane hopefully I won't even feel to crappy! I am, of course, sick. And I apparently gave Jodie my plague. i am going to blame Joel, even though pneumonia is not supposed to be contagious, because he is the only person I've seen in all my time home who was ill, and his pneumonia probably started with something more relatively innocuous. Also Jodie told me it was okay to blame him ;)

I don't have a lot more to add - I'm sick so my brain is a bit addled. Life goes on! I hope the conference is good, woot. Should be boarding in about 20 min. i'm going to go read Julie's latest story - great airport reading ;)
