Mostly ups, I have to admit.

Like... My dad is visiting! I haven't seen him since like... Christmas 2011 or 2010? So that's pretty cool. We haven't been doing a whole lot - he came to see me, not to See All the Things, though we have seen some of the things (like Red II, and I took him to the galleries today, and found out the hard way that Cushing is closed on the weekends (no GRRM exhibit, alas!). And tonight we feasted on Sodalaks! Really, dad being here means that I have eaten lots of tasty things I haven't had the ways or means to get to in a while.

Also, I graduated! I am officially a doctor of Anthropology now, though I do not at all feel qualified at the moment. I haven't cracked a book of any kind in months and I doubt I could carry on an intelligent conversation on anything related to my field -_- I need to get on that.
The people I'm dogsitting for will be home tomorrow. That's not really a good or a bad thing, just a Thing. It will be nice not to have to split my time between houses anymore, but I will miss the animals, and they have some things here that I don't have at home.

And the big low - one of those things is a working fridge. Cleaning out the freezer today was really really gross, and sad making. And gross. it smelled foul, and there was a lot of...leaky...things...in bags. Also stuff that my old roommate kept for her animals. Ugh. But a new one will hopefully be sorted out pretty quick, at least. what will really suck is having to restock all my fridge and freezer things from scratch :/ At least I didn't *really* lose that much though.

Anyway! I'm a doctor! I have my diploma and it is framed and everything! I got hooded on stage and hugged by my department head!

...The Night Vale fangirl in me likes to point out that I am now *officially* a Hooded Figure. Whether or not I am mysterious... who can say >.>

While I am not here under the best circumstances, I am trying to take advantage of it as much as I can.

I got to see a bunch of my relatives yesterday, including my one aunt on my dad's side, and some second(I think) cousins I haven't seen in an age and a half. Also my sister!!! <3 <3 <3 *more hugs*

I am at my dad's now, spending some time with him and his wife (I like her, but it just seems weird to consider her my stepmother, since they got married after I'd left home!). I just ate a canadial maple donought, and am drinking a chocolate iced cap, and have some timbits downstairs. Tonight we are having salmond and scallops and fiddleheads!!!

Tomorrow, we are going canoeing somewhere, and Satruday I am going to the Fredericton Farmer's Market, after which I hope to spend the day hanging out with friends I haven't seen in aaaages! Hopefully, anyway :o I'm still looking to get a drive back to Monkeytown on Sunday moring, but I am confident something will work out.

Now, if only I hadn't left my powerbar at the Moncton hotel. Bah, I blame the Dutch.

Also, during my ridiculously long layover in To, I am going to get to see Rob, and possibly my cousin Melissa, who I also haven't seen in forever :)

I slept in nicely, got up and wrote a story for a new writing meme I am participaing in over at my writing journal ([livejournal.com profile] measured_words in cse there s still anyone out there who doens't know!), read some French shipwreck book, played with the Exia wiki, went and bought completely unnecessary groceries (baking stuff and whim things like nutella and tahini - it was right near the organic peanut butter, yum! Now I can for real make hummus :D), put together a crock of baked beans (the molasses kind) which ought to be ready around midnight, made cookies (oatmeal chocolate chip and oatmeal crasin), and then *finished* the French book! Once I got through the ship construction bits, it got a lot easier. Now I just have to put together a 30 minute presentation on it for Tuesday... I have checked and can't find any other sources to work from, although Kevin said that he thought there was a summarizing article in English somewhere. I think he is crazy :p I have checked ever way i can think of to seach for material from this ship - nada. Which is odd - it is a neat little wreck, assuming I understand it properly :V Ahh well - at least this class I'm allowed to talk about more than just the construction details, which in this case includes some cool historical background and a bunch of stuff about the cannons. Yay cannons!

What else. I just put a pizza in the oven, rounding out a perfect day of eating nothing but crap. i took out a tangerine to make myself eat at least one good thing today, but the last one I ate was bitter. I really wish there was an accessible local source for organic veggies here. I find all the citrus is overly pesticide-y, so that even the fruit is a bit chemically, and forget about baking with it :p Later tonight I may go to movie night, and get rid of some cookies. If not I'll just have to inflict them on other deserving folks!

I had a nice long chat with Hazel last night about all kinds of things, including the gym. I am going to check out the free weight page she keeps telling me about, finally, and then on Monday I'm going to see what they have... I want to get some beter back and core exercises. But first I am going to call my dad, since I missed his skype call earlier tonight because I had the voume turned waaay down on my computer so I could concentrate on reading in French...

I had a really great time tonight. I got to hang out with people in person! it was not the people I'd *planned* on hanging out with, however, and i apologize to them -_-

Claire, a girl in my program, thought it would be a good idea to get people together to pick up the drafting supplies we will need for one of our classes from a local hobby shop (well really it is a big chain shop, but whatever) - we could all go together, so that everyone would have rides and also all be able to find and get what we need. So, I went and did that. And then we were silly for a bit in said shop, and then some of us went out and had dinner at a big fake Irish pub the name of which I forget. They had a menu where everything seemed to revolve around Guiness, however. I had the Guiness bacon cheeseburger or somesuch. It was huge, and delicious! I am sure I am spelling Guiness wrong, but anyway.

After that, it was just me, Claire, and Leanne, and we brought Leanne's dvd player over here and hooked it up to watch Velvet Goldmine. VG is one of those films that I'm not sure how I had avoided seeing it previously, but of course enjoyed! I think those two are Good People. I could tell about Claire after I noticed she was wearing the One Ring on a chain around her neck. Now if she'd been wearing in on her *finger* I may have worried ;)

We are planning to go see Snakes on a Plane, and possible see PotC2 (again), since Claire hasn't seen it. Both of these options please me.

In other other news, obviously my home internet is restore, and working better than ever. I have also managed to set up my laptop to use the school's wireless network, so score!

I am considering seeing if I can get in to check out the local LARP game on Friday as well - we will see what else is happening. However, I definitely want to see those people some more, as they were also quite fun. There may be room for overlap as well :o

Happy Birthday to my dad, who I was not able to call as planned because of the above impromptu socializaion, and more properly to my sister, who I hope receives her present soon :o

So, here I am in fredericton! It is Ace! I got in yesterday, after canoing with my dad with an outfit out of Doaktown for as few hours down the beautiful Miramichi river. the water was really high, so what would have taken 3+ hours took us only two, and we didn't really do much paddling. I took some lovely pictures. And of course my dad was happy to point out lots of place where, had we been fishing, we could have caught some salmons or trouts. Mmmm... Alas I didn't give him much notice on the fishing thing, maybe next time.

After that, we had lunch at the Family restaurant in Doaktown, where we both got to eat some salmon, at least. And then we headed for Fredericton. Despite my constant vigillence, we saw no moose, but we did see a deer crossing the road. We got in around 3, and I stopped in at Lisa's an left a message that I would be back on Monday or Tuesday AM. After that wards, we headed to Charlotte street, where much to my delight I learned Jodie managed to score yesterday and today of work, with Sunday and Monday being her regular days! So Jodies for me the whole time I am here :D yay!

Last night terry came over, and we hung out. I watched part of Batman Begins, and played Five Kingdoms, and went to the store. Today was the market (chicken sandwich and pastry and samosas, oh my! I couldn't find the truffle people but I did have a smoothie) with Stephen. Then we came home and hung out and munched and watched the Apple (finally! it is awesome!). Tonight, I had dinner with Joel's parents, and Bronwen is coming over when she gets off work at eight! Extra yay! tomorrow I will try and see Shan, perhaps, and Lee Hawkins. We shall see.

Anyway, the weather has been lovely and everything, and it is really really *really* great to be here.

*loves*

Oh hell! You know, I started to wrote this to let people know about my new toys! In addition to the cell phone, I now have an Olympus Stylus 710 digital camera (shiny and sweet!), *and* my Toshiba laptop, which they had in stock here. it was funny when I went to buy it, because I'd just found it on the wall when an employee came to ask me if he could help me with anything, and I said 'yes, I want this." And he was kind of taken off guard. I don't think he believed me initially ;) Anyway, it is mine, and it is shiny shiny shiny! :D
