Zorm day comes but thrice a year - it is the Day After Candy Sale Holiday. It is celebrated after Valentine's Day, Easter, and Hallowe'en.

Zorm is the sound one makes when one wishes to be given candy. repetition of the word is often combined with the action known as "grabby hands". This action is not typically successful, but it is tradition within certain narrow cultural circles nonetheless.

Zorms are, of course, candy. Zorm day is all about candy.

Building up the mythology of Zorm Day has psychological merit, in that it provides justification for the acquisition of large candy and chocolate hordes. It also justifies the efforts one might go to acquire such a horde.

This year, Post-Valentine's Zorm Day fell on a Saturday. I took Jola on a Very Long Walk to get to the Walgreens on Texas Avenue, which is the great Zorm Mecca. They have the best deals on leftover candy - everything goes on 50% straight off (hisses at Target), and they have a pretty good selection (hisses at HEB). Kroger was also pretty good when I lived closer to it, but it is quite a way out of the way for me now. Although that said it is only a few blocks away from the Wallgreens, I suppose. But anyway! I walked about 2.5 miles just to get some candy, ayup. ZORM DAY!

Today, of course, is Post-Easter Zorm day. I worked, but had hopes there would still be some zormable zorms! I also had a bunch of errands I needed to run - pick up Jola's county tag and her frontline, get some groceries and my acid reflux meds which I have been out of for almost a week now, ugh.

Clearly, fitting in a trip to Zorm Mecca was going to be worth the extra effort, even though it is about 3-4 blocks out of my way, considering that the vet is a block away from the grocery store (and its inferior zorms). I considered and reconsidered my route, and eventually decided to do a short circuit - vet, Wallgreens, HEB. With bus at either end and about a block walk home at the very end. This worked out pretty well - knowing that I was planning a zormspedition, I brought a pair of shorts to wear for the walk rather than the skirt I'd worn to work (because thigh chafe ;_;). I got off a stop later than I really should have for the vet and had to back track a bit, but everything else was fine. I got so many zorms - I'm well stocked for a while. I can also report that both Wallgreens and HEB have a crapton of Cadbury's Cream Eggs. I only got two - one for me and one for [profile] tethys123 - but Walgreens had one box full, and HEB (which had basically nothing else) had like three. I think this was about 1.5 miles, all told, but some of that was carrying shit, so that counts for more right? :V Anyway, it was not even 6 when I got to HEB, which I think is pretty impressive considering the bis didn't leave campus until about 5:07. I got home closer to 7, maybe around 6:45? But that was time shopping but waiting for the bus.

Most of my zorm haul is Russel Stover eggs of various kinds (the beeeest), plus the big cream eggs, two packages of the little cream eggs, some chocolate bunnies, a big bag of filled eggs. My biggest disappointments, in order was that I didn't score any: mini eggs (which were hard to find before easter too!), raspberry RS eggs, coconut RS eggs. Weh! I also finally got myself a new pair of sunglasses. Hopefully I won't lose or break these ones, or accidentally leave them in a other country :V

The zorms should last me quite a while - fear not, they are not for immediate consumption. And if properly requested, they may even be shared!

Yesterday, I was in the right place at the right time. And also, I'm a nice person.

There is a new classroom going in upstairs (I don't know how this works - probably just converting/refurbishing a room), which needed new furniture. So when I was on my class break, I just happened to go down the stairwell in which they were bringing stuff upstairs (on my way to the vending machine, see). And I held the door open for some of the guys struggling with a huge flimsy box full of desk parts. And then another box of desk parts fell apart, and I carried a piece of it upstairs (a little piece - there were enough other people around helping that that's all there was left!).

But this morning one of the secretaries made little bags of candy to thank everyone who helped! Score!

*noms candy corn, will save other bits for later*

Ironically, yesterday in the class I was on break from, we were discussing Marcel Mauss's The Gift...

The bus system at A&M often causes me to get my back up.  I've been left behind by buses as I run up to them to many times to count now, and it irks me even though I can't reasonably expect the drivers to psychically be aware of my presence.  It also irks me that the don't run the weekend buses on game weekends.  I can kind of understand that they wouldn't run on actual game days, but not to run on Sunday is kind of ridiculous.  Even if I liked football I can assure you that my life does not grind to a halt for an entire weekend because of one game :p  Okay ,one sports game ;)

We have an assignment due on Tuesday in the ship drawing class and although I started it yesterday, I'd really prefer to be further ahead with it than I am.  At least i have plenty of things to work on anyway!  These include:

-typing notes/studying for the Thursday test in 611
-reading material and taking notes for my 615 paper
-figuring out dimensions for my scantling list for my final drawing in 616, making sketches for the construction drawing, etc

Other non school related things i can be doing include:
-Creative writing projects (Shadows and the Cursed Wreck, the latter of which has been sadly neglected)
-buying groceries.  I am seriously running low on food D:
-Shower
-game tonight and tomorrow night!

I hope I can figure out if we do have game tonight - I suspect yes, but if not I'd like to see if I can make it to movie night!  I haven't been in a while :(

For today, groceries and notes are my priorities, and if I need a break from typing shit up, I can research my scantlings.

I also plan not to pig out on candy today, unlike every other day this week.  *sigh*  I remember when i was a kid, and I actually had some self control :p  One year I rationed my Hallowe'en candy *past* Christmas!  I would up keeping a bunch of the non-perishable stuff (like hard candies and rockets and stuff) in a little green box in a vent in my room for *years*.  It may even still be there.  i know I left stuff in the hideyhole on purpose when I moved away from there :)  I hope the kids who moved in afterwards like Little Archie comics :V  I don't remember what else was there, heh.  Possibly some kind of intermittently kept journal.

I realized that I was never going to find anything cool like that, but hey maybe I could brighten someone else's day :)

Anyway, today has been oddly full of nostalgia considering I've not even been awake an hour!

I am going to stop rambling, shower and break my fast, and type up the Anchor lecture.  Then I will get food.  I don't even have any bread!  This is going to be a big grocery haul...  I may even have to make two trips D:

Sometimes my music list likes to toss our really random syncretisms...  I was just writing about the copper nails on ma'agan Michael wreck.  Caught me off guard.

Yay, typing notes, typing notes....  I should probably head to school soon, but it smells like ass there.  Some asswad flooded the old world lab, and the water seemed into the carpets in the library, and now it is gong all mildew-y and it smells like old dirty towels that have been left in a pile for weeks on end.  Gross.

I'm staying late today to record a curve, wheee!    I hope the girls don't mind that my place is a tip when they come over for supernatural tonight....

I have also been eating too much candy lately -_-  And I need groceries.  Whee!
