EPIC RAINS!

Woke up in the middle of the night last night and couldn't figure out why. True, my allergy drugs had worn off (although I somehow managed to find my ood ones while I was stumbling around in the dark, depite the fact that i hadn't found them when I was looking before bed), but tht shuldn't have been enough, and did explain the sort of nervous energy.

No, that would have been the EPIC THUNDERSTORM that hit this morning. I was woken by my alarm, but finally got out of bed when there was a thunderclap so loud it sounded like a tree across the street had exploded! (It had not, unless it is in the park somewhere). Taking J out was a treat of soshing through ankle deep puddles and run off at the intersection to cross the street. She gets stupidly hyper in storms, also, and has been running around the house with her new squeaky toy, being an adorable pest. I need to call and see if her dogbuddy still wants her to come over or not :x I'm betting on no, though :/

It is still raining, which means the buildings at work may get flooding too, whee! I must remember to bring extra shorts and socks, or something :x

And I spilled tea on my foot -_- (not burnt though, hooray).

Gonna be an interesting day! I do love the rain here though - storms are so impressive.

weather

Well, it looks pretty clear out there right now, but they're calling for possible rain and snow this morning, and snow this afternoon with an accumulation of up to two inches o_O 90% chance of precipitation, even!

We'll see - I have doubts :x

I'm gonna wear boots just in case though.

rain dogs

I knew that the sky would errupt this evening. I could tell from how Jola was acting on our walk. She's a great weather predictor - storms get her sooo excited! It was a fantastic thunderstorm (and it is still raining), but I do have a few related wishes:

a: that it could have held off for another 3-5 min, so we could be done with out walk without the slight soaking.

b: that I had thought to close my windows after I got home, before my ivy got blown off the sill (WIND!), and a bunch of my books got wet, and before there was a giant puddle on my dining room floor -_-

Good times, anyway :)

Only happy when it rains?

Well, not *only* happy maybe, but Jola loves this kind of thing.

Which is why when I got up this morning and considered that she was going to need to go out to at least pee, I may as well go whole hog. So I crammed myself into my East German military surplus foul weather gear and, so suited, took her for a slightly abbreviated walk along our normal route.
she was having a grand time leaping in puddles, carrying around wind blown branches and rolling in wet grass. I managed to stay completely dry save for a stray lock of hair, but I wish I had worn a hat to keep the rain out of my eyes. Also now I smell like plastic and my skin is dry and itchy, but this can be easily remedied.

It was fun times! We didn't see anyone else out walking, though the Baptist church on Southwest had taken in evacuees, and some were standing under the overhang there, possibly smoking. There were a few cars out on the roads, though. The creek in the park is overspilling its banks, which was fun to ford. We saw a flock of grackles but no other wildlife. If I take her out again this afternoon, I'll see if my 'all weather' camera is up to the challenge :) And remember to wear a hat.

I quite enjoy this kind of weather too, though I admit to still being a little sleepy. I was up until after four - we had a hurricane party over at a friend's place, though of course it didn't actually start raining until we were leaving ;)

I obviously still have power and internets, and there's no other consequences to date. Wind is mostly from the north, and I only have one teeny north facing window. I will second [livejournal.com profile] cheez_ball's assessment and say that the storm passed to the east of us, however I did check on the radar. Really, though, it has rained harder here just in the course of a normal storm. I think the main differences are that this is gog to last longer and it is windier. Wooh!

Time to get dressed and find some breakfast. Maybe I'll make pancakes....

Hmmmm

it is looking like we may get more out of Ike than i was expecting tomorrow - at the least it will be hella stormy, and I should expect to lose power. So if I'm not around, that's why :V

I thik I'm pretty well prepared though! I'm going to cook a bunch of rice casserole later though - it will keep and I can eat it cold if I lose power for too long.

*love*

It is raining pretty hard this morning, so i haven't taken Jola out. However, she went back to sleep when I brought her in. I should have followed her example, I think :V last night she was super duper cuddly and came and laid down with her head on my feet, so i sat on the floor with her for a bit as I listened to some magnetic fields before bed. A good night, I think!

Now I need to finish an e-mail, get dressed, and go in to work... Except I know my boss won't be around until the afternoon, and this new couch is soooo comfy....

Oh also

In addition to my comment earlier today about the crazy weather - tonight we had a thunder, lightning, and sleet storm. I just saw some more lightening, too. Madness. Yup, there's the thunder!

Do over! Do over!

I would like a do over of this morning.

First of all, I found out that my computer clock has been set an hour off for gods know how long, so I have been getting to bed an hour later than I thought! No wonder I've been getting tired so 'early' ;p

Secondly, this morning the bus drove right past me and another guy waiting at the stop without even slowing down once it passed us! The other guy called the dispatch people but there were no help. I hope she at least gets in trouble. Really it is not very hard to pick up people from a bus stop when you are driving a bus. That is kind of the definition of your job. Bah!

So I called Megan, who I was supposed to meet at the gym, and tried again. With not much better success, but even more wasted time. I got on the bus, but by the time I got to school there was a torrential downpour. Even if I *had* thought to bring my umbrella (and I note that it was hot and sunny the first time I left the house), I doubt I could have made it t the gym without being soaked!

Now I am at home, and after some distressingly close thunder peals, it is being audaciously sunny outside, and i am not impressed!

I know other people out there have had worse days than me so far, so I think we should all get together and petition for a do-over of Tuesday!!

Although since that isn't likely to happen, I need to find something else to fill my day. Definitely I will work on some more stories, but I am not sure if I should read some more pirate books or start poking at an article of my own... I also need to go through more drivers handbook stuff (went through half last night).

Apparently, i lied

I just looked outside, and lo and behold, there is actually ice everywhere, including dripping off the tree in my front yard. Perhaps, considering the lack of snow removal and road salting infrastructure, they were so crazy to close the school afterall!

of course the roads look pretty bare, all said...

cripes, what is *wrong* with you people? o_O

School is cosed again due it it being cold and raining. It isn't, as far as I can tel, that the roads are actually *icy* or anything, no. But there just might be freezing rain and an 'ice storm' arning is in effect. But since I only have classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, I've already missed my entiree first week of term.

I'd not complain, except that it is cold and raininy out and the buses aren't running, so I'm effectively stuck at home. i would like to go get groceries at some point, but I don't think ithat slogging though cold and rain when I am already sick is the best plan.

Oh, yes, and also because the school is closed, I can't get to the student health thing either :p Of course, my cold shows no signs of leaving - this is what happens when I get my winter colds. They need antibiotics to be induced to clear up. I'd really lke to be able to talk again without sounding like I swallowed a tranny, and possibly also a mouse.

Ahh well, I did download all first season Avatar at least, so that can keep me somewhat occupied... I also desperately need to do laundry - another fun rainy weather activity :p

In better news: HBO planning an ASOIAF series :o (Thanks Rogan for he info and [livejournal.com profile] tsiankiio for the link! :D

Well, crap!

So, apparently, my apartment complex got HIT BY A TORNADO the other day. So, the only real things I'm worried about are my books. Mostly. I e-mailed the complex to see what info I can get, but, ummm.... yeah, so that sucks, eh? Glad to have been home, and thanks to [livejournal.com profile] tethys123 for the heads up :o And at least I don't live on the second floor :o

storm

There is some mighty furious weather going on outside the window. The rain is bucketing down, cooling (!!) the city, finally (!!). There is thunder, and presumably an accompanying light show - I can only see the occasional flash from here. This is good and bad. Good for the cooling. I have barely slept the last two nights because of the heat. We were having record temperatures, in the 40's once humidity was taken into account (110+, for my American amigos), coupled with the usual city smog. No one I know here has air conditioning. On this account, the rain is very welcome.

On anther account, though, this is my last night in the city. I just bought a new suitcase. I am at hazel's right now, but my things are all at rob's.... including the things that need to go into this new suitcase. Rob lives about a 10-15 min walk away. I have packed all the other shoes I have, as my sandals are the best traveling shoes I've got. *sigh* There is also thundershowers forecast for tomorrow morning.

Ahh well, you win some, you loose some. I'll be happy to get some sleep, I think :o
