Heather's Great Bahamian Adventure Day Seven: Where *has* the rum gone?

In my belly!

Went to Fort Montague, read some at the quiet beach, then over to Paradise Island where I shunned the price resort foods in favour of Quiznos for a late lunch, and then ambled over towards the public access to cabbage beach. Had some rum drinks (from a coconut!), so, mission accomplished! Played in the ocean, read some more, got hit on by more locals, gave one a hug but not my room number ;) Took the ferry back to Nassau, showered, now playin' exia. Good day :)

Food Update:

I had dinner twice tonight - I wandered out to the Fish Fry after the ferry, and tried a conch salad. It is basically cevice (cerviche? ceviche?), only with conch - raw conch, onions, tomato, pepper with lime and sour orange juice. It was okay, if I would have liked that kind of salad even minus the conch. So since that wasn't especially satisfying, I had fried grouper here at the hotel while I was playing exia. Whee! Next time maybe I'll try the cracked conch... maybe. My experiences with conch dishes haven't been great...

Hee! Nice picture. I am so jealous. Glad you are having a wonderful time. Say hello to the rum for me!

It say hellllo! Also I think that Remus ought to buy a stylin' straw hat - they are made here by local artisan weavers :) And they smell nice!

Heh. I think he had one when he was on the boat, but then Sirius told him he looked ridiculus in it. :p I am, however, going to incorporate pirate treasure somewhere into this story, just because I have Sirius leaping around in my head saying, "Yarr!"

ARRR!

ceviche. JEALOUS! *wants some*

Instead I shall content myself by planting tropical vines on my balcony. Definitely not the same as ceviche in the bahamas.

Let me know what you think of the other conch dishes you try. Around here and in FL they seem to have it fried a lot and all I ever take away from that is the fact that I ate something fried. Ceviche is one of my favourite dishes, and I hardly ever get to have it. I wonder if it is tough to make...*ponders*

I dunno about regular ceviche, but I watched them make the salad, and it looked pretty simple: 1 fresh raw conch, diced 9They cut the black end bit off), 1 fresh raw onion, tomato and bell(? possibly some kind of hot pepper) pepper, juice of 1 really juicy lime and 1 really juice sour orange, more or less.

Why didn't you give out your room number?? I mean unless they were trolls.

Conch is pretty tasteless in my experience. I figured that ceviche would at least spice it up a bit. I do recall a fairly good conch soup that a little Bahamian place served down in Sarasota.
