It is ridiculously nice out today, plus it is a long weekend, so apparently this gives me incentive to do some cleaning, wooh! Plus also my allergies have been going bananas cray and that is always an incentive to try and reduce indoor allergens. The latter combination is a poor one though because it means that I vacuum for 5-10 min, then sit for thirty because my lungs are going "whyyyyyyyyyy ;_;" at me. Or my upper respiratory area, anyway. I really ought to go and have a chat with my doctor about my acid reflux because I suspect it is also contributing more than it should.

Anyway! I got the downstairs and the stairs done, and I had started cleaning the bathroom (I had sprayed down the tub anyway, and was letting the cleaner do its thing) when my roommate came home, and offered to finish the job. I sometimes feel like I am the only person who will clean things without prompting in the entire world. Well other than the kitchen. Current roomie is better than me about that. And tbh he has cleaned the sink a few times and I think he is better about his room, but even so. I don't have super high standards but come on people! Anyway - speaking of my terrible standards and no one else ever cleaning, I dusted the living room for the first time in like.... a very long time. Not completely - I should break out my microfiber thingummy and to the blinds and the fan, but I got the shelves and such! Huzzah! I think it is telling how poor my cleaning standards are because I'm pretty sure I make a self-congratulatory post every time I do it :p

I also cleaned out my wrangling bins this morning, and they were the nicest they had been since before Yuletide. I know [personal profile] naryrising has been doing a good job at not letting it go too ridiculous, but there are always odd crossover things in Night Vale, or equally confusing tumblr OCs, and today I got them all sorted out \o/

I *also* got to work some on my story today, so extra yay! It is abou 6k words now abot will probably wind up in the 8-10 range? Well, [personal profile] naryrising is saying she might give me art for it now, of boys smoking (it's a theme?), so that's all worthwhile even if only 4 people rad it ^-^

Tonight (in like 5 min) I have game and because tomorrow is a holiday I miiiiight even get to go hang out with folks afterward. People have been going out for food after, but I always have work and can't. So we'll see what my luck is like - maybe this will be the one week they don't.

Regardless, tomorrow is Martin Luther King day, and I don't work! I think that makes it easier for me to make myself do chores, knowing I can have a break day, then a work day, an then another break before actually going back to work. I am looking forward to it in general, and also because I am going over to [profile] tethys123's with some people tomorrow to work on crafting stuff :) Maybe tonight I can get my Yshbel sorted out tonight during game and make more progress on it tomorrow!

I have today off! My whole work schedule is completely messed up because of Christmas (making up a 40-hour over 2 week pay period that started on the 27th when we only started back on ther 2nd), work training (I have 2 8-hour museums database training days next week), MLK day (I get paid hourly, so stat holidays just mean re-organizing my hours), and some other work-related irregularities (I have to help move some giant paintings tomorrow, but don't usually work Fridays *or afternoons, plus we have installations to get ready for opening on the 17th..). Anyway. I don't work today and not until 1 tomorrow.

This irregular schedule makes it hard fore me to get other things done, like dissertation work (though I have been plugging away at things) or house cleaning. My house is a tip and I haven't vaccuumed since before Christmas, and it is driving me (and my allergies!) nuts!. So I am hoping to get a lot of that stuff straightened out today. I've already run the dishwasher, so that's so hope for the kitche, but honestly that is the least scary room. My bedroom is particularly distressing, and I have a lot of picking up to do in the living room as well. It coudl eb a lot worse, but still - it needs doing. I also have a knitting project i really want to finish today. I can hopefully use that as a cleaning break :)

Once my room is more together, I can put away the pile of clean laundry that has accumulated in the reading room...

Better get on all this, I guess! I also need to thaw some meat for dinner... meant to do that yesterday :/

Off I go :)

So much to do, so little actual drive to do any of it >.>

This is my last week house sitting, and now I'm looking around thinking things like 'maybe I should have taken better care of the lawn - or hey they *do* have a weed whacker, hrm'. Plus I have so much crap here - seriously sooo muuuch crap, between books and clothes and hats and other randomness. So, I guess today will be a cleaning/tidying/arranging day, starting with the plans, which need watering.

Other things to try to achieve:
-sweeping
-laundry - one load left to wash, two to put out to dry... its humid today so the racks are taking longer
-clean bathroom
-pack up extraneous stuff from around the house and at least consolidate it
-weed whacking? Mow the lawn? I have never actually used a weed whacker, or touched a lawnmower in about oh... ten years or more? - yeah this is not happening, I can't figure out how to make them go >.>
-put beds back together (took some mattress covered off when cleaning various cat-related incidents >.>) - done barring laundry

[profile] lukoni is in town this week too (yay! for me anyway, boo for her - she has jury duty), so I want to make sure I get stuff tidied up there as well (mostly I need to clean Maze's litter box and maybe vacuum again), and also start getting *my* room ready to live in again. Which means laundry there, and vacuuming, and also just general putting away of stuff so I can have a decent workspace at my desk.

I guess I will start with the plants and some laundry and sweeping here. If I can get home to Maze's stuff sorted out this morning and maybe a little tidying there that will be good - I can always go back tomorrow and take care of more stuff there as well.

And at some point, more diss writing. I have been doing pretty well with that - I got all my chapter bits moved and now need to write a new transition for chapter 5... and then I can really start chapter 6. Maybe this weekend? Maybe?

*eyes to-do list*

Better get moving :3

Some thoughts and a plan.

I am up early as a result of going to bed early. I slept pretty well considering that it was my first night in the place. A few odd dreams but I don't remember them specifically. I think one of them had me hanging out with Shan? It is starting to feel a bit like 'my' place, but mostly because it is still covered in my mess ;p I think this is gong to wing up being an expensive move - I want to make my house more homey, for real this time. Paint is a start (which is money, supplies are more), I really need to get a desk now, and possibly also another table (incidentally, Hazel, I am thinking of painting mom's brown table, since I'm going to be painting anyway - any objections?) for the kitchen. I also need a new hard drive (luckily I found my windows XP installation cd, wooh)!, and an external hard drive.... Maybe a webcam, I'm undecided. That's another big chunk of money.

More immediately, I need groceries! These are even more easily obtained than before, however, as my house backs on a grocery store. It would be evener more better if there weren't a fence, though!

I am hoping to get paint today, and maybe even do some painting before Exia. I can probably at least start masking things off so that I can really get started tomorrow. I looked at my colours again, and while I still like the over all scheme, I don't think I am married to these specific tones - we'll see. I also need to decide if I should paint inside my closets, and what to do with my doors (currently painted to match the rest of the apartment). And I still need to finish cleaning in the old place. I'll head over there early this afternoon, after lunch and some groceries. i need to get my pantry sorted still.... but I also want to get some kind of paper to line my shelves with, so I don't want to go crazy yet.

My kitchen here is huge, but I think I might actually have less storage space. At the old place, I had an actual pantry to store things, whereas here I just have cupboards. I am also going to need some kind of organizer for my bathroom, where I only have one (admittedly large) cabinet, under the sink. I'll sort it out, anyway - for now i have writing to do. I've barely posted anything for [livejournal.com profile] august_writing!

Moving was very easy - took about three hours and four and a half trips or so for four people. The bigass truck really helped! Afterwards there was pizza and beer! The pizza was from Antonio's, which makes it extra win, and it will probably be dinner when I go home. To the new home. The one I hope to keep for the rest of my stay here, anyway.

After lunch, I started unpacking a few things - mostly kitchen and bathroom, i.e. nothing I'll just have to move in order to paint I am looking forward to a house with some colour! Okay, possibly a *lot* of colour, as most of the shades I've picked out for my place are ery bold warm colours - brick orange/red for the living room, with a mandarin orange-y gold for trim and the hall, a nice deep blue kitchen (complimentary colours-ish - also my linoleum is blue :p) and bathroom, a pumpkin pie shade for my bedroom, and a deep green for my study. I doubt martha Stewart would approve but hey, raise your hand if you don't care! :D

So this afternoon I've been cleaning out the old place. I vacuumed the carpets, cleaned the closest and all the cupboards and cabinets, washed the windows (except the exterior where there was a screen because I couldn't figure out how to take the windows out -_- I also cleaned the fridge and spot washed walls and window frames, etc.

Major things I still need to do are:
Oven
Linoleum in kitchen and bathroom
More spot washing of walls
Counters
Sinks

I think that is all of it. Unless I want to start on things like washing all the light fixtures and doing more than a half-assed job at cleaning the mini blinds. Oooh we hates that! Now I have to decide if I want to go get oven cleaner now, or wait and just do that tomorrow. I think I will, though. I'll give it a spray and leave it until tomorrow. It's been a loooong day!

ETA: Fuckin' Texas! It started raining, and *then* it clouded over! Right when I wanted to go (that is walk) home >:P Hopefully it won't last long - I'm getting hungry!

So, I registered for some classes, and whatnot, and my tuition isn't as much as I thought it would be. So I'm not as desperately or as I feared, but next term is still going to be tight.

Hazel pointed me to a scholarship that I think I'm decently eligible for, the Mckenzie King thingy. Its submission date isn't until Feb 1, too, which is nice. I just need transcripts, 3 letters of reference, and a 600 word statement. I suspect it is pretty competitive, but on the other hand I've never heard of it. There is one 'open' scholarship, and 4 that are supposed to be about international relations. I will give the international relations one a shot with my pirates, I think... Can't hurt! Tomorrow I am going to go in and talk to Kevin, maybe. I think I'll e-mail him now, that sounds like a plan. Then I need to figure out who to approach for letters of reference. Feb 1 is both far and near for reference letters... It would be a super long time if this weren't the end of term, and Christmas break wasn't upon us...

Anyway. I mostly cleaned my bathroom. Yay?
