So... I'm going to Canada this weekend! Again!
It turns out that they won't give you a US visa that last longer than your passport, and mine expires in March. I'd planned to renew it remotely once I got home, but that is not going to work for a variety of reasons (processing time + post time = dodgy proposition). Even if I could get it before it was due, I'd still have to leave the US and reenter.
So, back to Canada! This was an idea weekend, as Monday is a holiday in the US (MLK day) but not in Canada, so I'm missing one less day of work. This is good as I'm having to use sick time for this trip since I don't actually *have* any vacation yet :p
I had looked into going back to Montreal (I missed out on so much from being sick on the last half of my trip at Christmas), but it was just too expensive. The whole urgent passport thing is gonna be pricey anyway (though really not too much more than getting it renewed from the US >.>). So I am opting instead to go up to Windsor! I can save a lot of money by flying into Detroit and driving across the border both ways. This does give me a little dread, as I don't have a great history with the US border guards at that crossing. The last time they let me sit for half an hour because none of the half dozen of them working wanted to admit that they didn't know how to process my forms :p The only one who did was the only one of the pack who was actually helping anyone else. They only stepped up to do it once he was free, and only then because someone else came in and they couldn't let them go before me :p Not impressed.
Anyway, I fly in on Saturday night and I will stay with
naryrising and
forthright. Sunday will be for chilling/fretting. Monday I will take in my application (I already have photos that I got yesterday), I'll pick up my passport on Tuesday, and fly back Wednesday. I get home at like midnight, and work the next day, wheee! I also give blood the next day >.> It'll be fun times! I hope it will though - I will have some down time, and if everything goes smoothly it should be nice :) I have been promised that we can make garlic fingers :3
I am being spoiled in my Curtana visits, as she is going to be coming to visit me in March as well :)
