uuuuuuugh

I went to bed at 1:30 without having finished my paper. I still have a page to go and it needs serious refining Not due until 4 though, so hooray. Class today in the am - then I'll come home and work on it more, after I scam free lunch and meet the woman's week speaker. I don't know if I'll get to go to the lecture at 3 or not. I also need to give Shelley some of the stuff I did for him yesterday, and go in and pick up my steroid inhaler to see if I can stave off the lung infection that is trying to invade my lungs. I don't think I'll get to the gym tomorrow, alas. Oh, I also need to go to pet co and pick up food for Jola. Who is crazy hyper this morning despite going to bed super late. I think they put crack in her shots yesterday! Also, I'd put up more pics of her at facebook but I don't think I linked them here, so if you haven't seen them, enjoy :) Lately, shes' becoming more cat like. She likes to pounce on things, but only after a suitable amount of waiting/watching. And a bit of butt wiggling. She's never even seen a cat that I know of, so I don't know where it is coming from! Also she is extra jingly now as she has her rabies vaccination tag and county tag (license) in addition to the name tag that she already had.

Is that all I was going to say? Hmmm.... I clearly need more tea. Ugh.

The butt wiggle is actually a very sensible thing for any quadruped to do just before pouncing, when their life may depend on what they can catch with that pounce, so I'd take it as a sign of her intelligence. ^_^

She is pretty clever!

Why is the wiggle sensible?

[identity profile] ladyiolanthe.livejournal.com 2008-04-16 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, most of the power for the pounce comes from the hind legs. The butt wiggle is actually a shifting of the back feet in place, if you observe closely when it happens, as I have with my kitties. Very similar to us testing a loose-looking rock or sheet of ice to see if it will shift under our weight or not support us.

So I believe they do it to make sure that when they release all that energy to catch their supper, their footing won't slip under them, throwing off their pounce and missing that hard-to-catch meal.

Ahh, that does make good sense. Thanks!

Eee, so she has a little 'Jola' name tag? :D

[identity profile] elanya.livejournal.com 2008-04-16 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course! It is blue, in the shape of a bone. It also has my phone number <3

Giger has the same tag! My dad put his name on it ("so they'll know whose dog it is") but not the dog's... so if he ever gets out, we're in for a confusing phone call.

Awwww! Jola's so cute and growing so fast. :-)

Chloe likes to pounce too. Especially when a laser pointer is involved. O.o
