So last night one of the girls in my year hosted a little get together at her house so we could all talk about our summers and catch up and such. I decided to bake something.... mostly because I like baking. It wasn't really necessary, as there was probably already one plate of dessert for everyone who showed up! And by plate, I mean a whole cake, or tray of cookies, and that's not counting the dips and other stuff she out together! Anyway! i made poppyseed bread.

I tink it turned out a little dry, but I only had the end piece. With everything else there, only one other person had a little piece.

My plan was to bring it in to the department this afternoon and let people there devour most of it.

However last night I'd left it wrapped in the tinfoil I'd used to bring it over to Carrie's.... and this morning it was infested with ants! Oh sadness and woe! I think I killed half a colony just wiping off my counter :p

I need some new ant traps apparently :p I've never lived anywhere with an ant problem - this'll learn me. There were here first, I guess.

I have conquered my natural reaction to puke so I could clean up after my pets, but I don't know if I'll ever get over the way ants turn my stomach.

Get some ant traps, plus clear out the cabinets under your counter, and spray along the back wall. Leave them open for a bit to dry before putting all the stuff back in. Use hot water and soap to clean all along the counter. Be sure to get the backboard, the baseboard, and the seams between the wall and the cabinet. If you see ants, follow them back to their source and spray where they're coming in. You should also clean where they're walking, because that's where the chemical trail was left which will lead other ants to your food.

You should also call the apartment complex and tell them there's an ant problem. Ants showing up that quickly means there's a bigger problem, and they need to get some pros out there to hose the place down.

I've been doing some of that, and there were a few ant traps around when I moved in (though I don't know how old they are, or how long such things last). So far I've only seen them on the one counter (There were some once before, but nothing there for them to ruin :p). I'll do a bigger ant attack tonight, I think, but the counter where they are coming in is the one where the dishwasher is installed, so I'm not sure how much I can get at :/

And I need to talk to the complex people today anyway - they still haven't fixed my tub!

Stupid ants!

Call Ant-Man. I mean, he's kind of jerk, he likes to beat on his wife and all, but Man! When it comes to ants... he's your guy.

We used to have that problem in Jamaica. For a while when we were there and a couple years afterwards, just the sight of an ant could churn my stomach because I'd seen them swarming over food so often. But I grew out of it.

Good luck conquering the ants!

I don't find ants crawling on this gross - I don't consider them 'dirty' insects, I guess, but I figured the poppyseeds were already giving it enough crunch -_-

Ants aren't really all that bad as insects go. I know they're food in some places, and I think some cultures used to use them to close wounds - get the ants to bite down and then separate the body from the head so the head stays there holding the cut shut. They're not really disease vectors to the extent that flies and mosquitoes and the like are.

Still, yeah, I don't think I'd eat food that had ants on it. ;)
