I read an article in Mariner's Mirror last week that suggested that Darcy leaver, who wrote The Young Sea Officer's Sheet Anchor, a book on rigging, might have been the inspiration for Mr. Darcy in Jane Austin's Pride and Prejudice...

Alas I didn't write down the citation, but I could probably find it again pretty quick.
