So, I left my house on Friday morning around 4 AM. The taxi was much more expensive that I expected, and I was there waaaay earlier than I needed to be. The plane into Houston was delayed because of fog therte, but I was not concerned. They passed my flight through the gate, and we wated, and then... Oh wait, our flight was delayed as well, Yay.
So we took off about an hour and a half late. Maybe not quite that loing, but it was loing enough for me to miss my connection in Dallas. Lovely. After standing in line at the gate to find out what the deal was (and getting leered at/chatted up by an especially disgustiong male specimen*), I had to go to the ticketing counter outside to findout what would happen to me.
So after standing in line for about an hour, I am told that the only flight they can put me on is the next day, and also that they won't pay for a hotel for me because the delay is not my fault. So, I end up at a crappy Ramada spending money I don't *really* have. I try and call Joel's parents, but they aren't home, and I leave a medium incoherent message on their phone. Of course, I don't have Joel's cell number :p In fact, I'd forgotten that he even had a cell! The internet at the hotel isn't working, of course, so I can only call people. I talk to my dad to get him to fix up my monies so I don't over charge my Visa and get him to e-mail Hazel and Joel :/ I spend the rest of the time watching Dr. Who (thanks [Bad username or site: Earis! @ livejournal.com]), taking a bath, writing some Shadows. Joel eventually calls I tell him when my flight is getting in, etc, all seems well.
The next day, I once again get up stupidly early (around 3:45) to catch the shuttle to the airport. get there early, get my tickets sorted, etc. Went to my gate, after security opened (yeha I was there that early...). Waited at 'my gate', reading. However as I was tired and stupid I misread my gate information (1 = 7, right?) and missed my flight. The lady I dealt with after that was kind of a botch, though in the end she proved my salvation. She booked me (standby) on a flight to LaGuardia, and one to Halifax out of JFK. I'd have to get my luggage in NY, hop a 30-40$ cab, then re-check in with everything in New York. Yeah, fun -_- My other option is to try and make the original flight I was booked for (on Saturday, obviously not my *original* original flight -_-), butshe thinks it is unlikely that I will make the connection.
I get on the plane. My original LaGuardia connection is still boarding! I exult, things seem to be going my way! I head to the gate, which is actually really close - almost in sight! However, I get there, and of course, have my illusions are shattered. The flightis overweight. they are trying to be able to get more people on the flight, but aren't having much luck. I ask her if I should just take my JFK flight, she tells me to wait. I am a little (and as it turns out later, needlessly) anxious because the woman in Dallas seemed to be suggesting that it would take quite a while to get to JFK and so forth. I wait, she gets some more people ion the flight. Eventually, she asks if I would be willing to take the JFK flight if they paidfor my taxi and gave me a $250 travel voucher. I agree. Taxi is arranged.
I call Joel, and leave a message on his cell (since he gave me the number the night before). and go about the business of waiting. My laptop battery allows me to watch two more episodes of Dr. Who. I wrote some more Shadows. I call Joel again and find out that he did not, in fact, get my message. He hangs out at the airport, and I feel bad -_-
I go up to the gate and try and see if I can get my boarding pass printed. They tell me, basically, that I am on standby, but that I shoudn't worry too much. I start to stress a bit, because if I don't make this flight I don't know what I will do D: Boarding time comes. No pass yet. Real panic starts creeping in. I try to catch the attention of one of ther ticketing people. She comes to ask what I need, and I have a hard time uteering my problem. It is something like "need to get to... Halifax... third delay...Oh god." She asks my name. A boarding pass is produced, and I quickly mutter a thank you and rush off through the gate. I make it, I am on my way! Only then the plane is delayed for about another hour. Just can't win -_-
I finally got to Halifax around 9:30. Joel is there, being exceedingly patient. I call my dad, and try calling my grandmother, thinking I could crash at her place, but her phone is busy. He calls his parents, etc. We decide to sttart driving anbd figureout what to do once we are on the road and see how tired we are. Stop in Aulac for food. decide to go to F'ton because Joel doesn't know how to get to the 'Chi from Monkeytown. Get in around 2:30. I crash in his room with the kitties (love!) Chaqnce is perturbed at the invasion and flees. Sophie miao's indigniantly but moves over to make room. I sleep okay, except that Chance decides at some point in the middle of the night that I need a head massage, and that she wants to play with my hair. Sophie wakes me up around 10 (I think) being uncharacteristically cuddly. Alsdo the dogs both give me a warm welcome that night.
In the morning, I have a bigass piece of cake (from Aulac, with the frosting of dooooom!), say hi to his mom, and eventually, we head to the 'Chi. Get in around 1. I rejoice. I have lunch, Joel heads home for his early Xmas dinner. I nap until whatever time it was I made my
first post.
It is nice to be here. Alas, I think I am coming down with a cold -_-
* He leers, I ignore. He comes up with "Woman Pirate, what does that mean?" I am wearing my Woman Pirate shirt see. I am angry about having missed my flame, and I glare of death him. "It means leave me alone or I'll hit you." He tries to continue to 'charm' me. "So what to I have to do to take a swing?" I intensify the glare. "Uhh... I see it's close." He stops staring, the asshat. Fucker :p
