I finally got writing tonight around 9 or so. I've now got fewer than 1000 words to reach maximum.... that means less than 1000 words before I have to start cutting D:

I still have to talk about the Betsy, and conclude. And if it looks like I'll have space, I'll talk about Selgrave and pirates. Because they do tie in, even if they aren't *essential* to the topic. I *heart* them!

I should be able to finish the writing tomorrow, which will leave Monday for editing (haaaate proofreading -_-) and doing formatting stuff like fixing up references, putting together the bibliography (I also *heart* endnote!), figures, etc. I made a table though, oooooh!

And now I am going to write a bit of Shadows until i am too tired, and then sleep :)

*dances*

I would like to report that I have "Barrett's Privateers" stuck in my head, starting from when I read your paper last night. :p

I'll help with proofreading, if you like.

I couldn't figure out endnote. One more thing to do over Christmas vacation, eh? Oh, and Pompey and the pirates (sounds like a band name to me) are making a brief appearance in my paper. Thought you'd be pleased.

Do you think I *need* to go all the way to 7500 words?

Hee! If it is any consolation, I woke up with a song by the same artist in my head this morning? :)

Pirates always please me, even if their appearance is brief!

And no, I don't think you need to go all the way there. Write until you're happy with what you have, and don't worry too much about the lenght.

And I haven't figured out how to make endnote put references in my paper, but I can at least stick everything in there and just copy and tweak the formatting when I'm done...

The only reason I'm not doing more than a brief pirate appearance is because technically my paper starts with the crossing of the Rubicon, and that was 18 years before. Maybe when I do my thesis, I'll do a chapter just on them.

Which is to say, the scourging of the pirates was 18 years before. Ugh, I'll stop now. My grasp of English is clearly fading fast.

I knew what you meant :) I figured it was a matter of timing.

How's it coming?

Quite well, actually. Upon revision, I realizd that the pirates aren't going to do what I wanted them to, so there is really no point in including them. So I just need to write my conclusion, and put in my basic bibliography and such.

If I send you a proof-reading copy in an hour or so, would that be okay? I can look yours over for you if you like as well. I am okay for looking over other people's stuff - it is just my own errors I'm blind to.

How is yours coming?

Sure, send it over. Mine is . . . I don't know how mine is. I always feel like I'm making crap up when I assert things in a paper. I've got about 3750 words -- half of the max, weird. For whatever reason, writing long papers has always been a struggle for me. I assume that my audience knows a lot of it; I'm never sure what needs explanation and what doesn't. I've struggled with that since I was an undergrad.

I need to finish talking about the British and German fleets, and then do my conclusion. Then the fun of setting up my works cited begins; Sarah pretty much blew me off, so I have to muddle through it myself. (yeah, a little pissed about that, actually)

If I keep working steadily, I should be done with the paper itself tonight, and biblio stuff tomorrow.

And I would like it if you'd look at mine; I'll let you know as I get closer to being finished. Just send yours whenever you're ready.
