I was in Montreal with Ceiridwen from Monday to Thursday, visiting some fine folks including [livejournal.com profile] curtana, [livejournal.com profile] forthright, [livejournal.com profile] sorceror, and [livejournal.com profile] gats. Also Arthur, and Julie's mom. We stayed at a pretty crappy hostel. the last night that we were there, they gave away my bed and i had to sleep on their lumpy couch. However the couch area was air conditioned, unlike everywhere else, so I don't think I slept more poorly there than I would have, and I did get my money back for that night. Other fun thing we did (beside seeing people and hanging out) included seeing the Biodome, shopping at some neat little places on the plateau, Chinatown, and spontaneously serenading Charles with the Moose Song when we drove him home on Wednesday night. We got lost a lot, but never irrecoverably. Montreal has a lot of tricky one way streets, and they weren't always well marked on our map. Or we'd think we could get on to a certain street only to find out there was a no turning sign, or there was a road island we couldn't cross, or some other similar thing. I scored some neat things, including a little stuffed moose, a cool fake-suede skirt from Excalibur, and a leaf hat for Hazel. Leaf hats: The questionable fashion accessory that will make you the envy of some! Also know for their ability to render you invisible to ghosts and evil spirits.

The downside to the trip was that Thursday I got sick. I'm not sure if it was something I ate on Wednesday, or just poor timing. Yesterday was especially miserable. I think I am better today, though, hooray!

We got home in time for me to play DC on Thursday, and last night was Five Kingdoms, which gave us a brutal unexpected fight. Stupid fireball, stupid burning inn, stupid web, stupid only having three healing spells a day -_-. Anyway, it was fun. C and I played from Hazel's house, and we brought lots of snacks. We'd dined beforehand at the Butler's Pantry, a really yummy restaurant about a block or so away from Hazel's. Yum!

I'm still staying at Rob's. There is still construction outside his place, with the 'added bonus' that now they are using a lift machine to install the siding on the townhouses, which beeps annoyingly. I think they are almost finished that bit though, thank goodness! I also think that I spoke too soon a moment ago - I am not completely well today, but better than yesterday or Thursday, for sure. Rob is still sleeping - I'm not sue why I woke up as early as I did today, but it's given me time to write this all up, so whatever. The wedding that C is attending is today, I hope she has a good time! I am not really sure what we will do today, but there is a dance performance tonight that I'd like to take in if possible. Rob's roommate is having a party tonight as well, which, now that I remember, probably explains why the house is so clean today :) Once I'm done here (this is the last section of this post that I am writing - screw linear order!), I think I will make myself some toast, and have some juice, and sit out of the sun for a bit. Rob's place needs some bloody curtains :p

I haven't had a chance to make a big update lately, but figured there are me people who might want to know how I am getting on.

The biggest news is that, for a mere extra 261$ (about 2/3 of the price of the original ticket), I am now leaving here on Thursday. This will hopefully be long enough that my I-20 will arrive before I try to leave the country again. This will give me fewer days to pack the rest of my apartment and see people in Greenville, but it should be alright. I need to e-mail Dina again. I know that I can probably find a place to stay in Greenville that is not with her, but I don't have any contact information for anyone else. Mrar. Anyway.

I have not found a place to live in Texas yet. I had been communication with one crappy hole, but when they stopped getting back to me I started communicating with a more expensive place - we will see. Hopefully I will not be living in a nice place and eating nothing but rice and lentils for my entire phd career -_- It is not on a bus route, either - really it is not my first choice, but it allows pets and such, and is close enough to a bus that I'll be able o manage, I'm sure.

I have a moving company lined up - I just need to fax some stuff back to them to officially secure everything, then send them both a number I can use in the US and my new address, whenever I get that.

I still haven't arranged for my travel to College Station, though. I haven't actually looked in to my options, to be honest. The moving people are booked for the 8th or 9th, so I guess I should be looking at leaving on the tenth? Hrm.

What else, then... I haven't really had much contact with my department so I really don't know what to expect when I get in, either.

UPDATE: I have now booked my flight from Greenville to College Station, hoozoo, another 400$ down the drain -_-

...So really, my life is just a mass of chaos, as ever.

bus routes are hard to come by in these parts. cars are pretty mandatory. i suggest you win the lotto and get a bmw.

I have a plane stopover in Dallas, I believe, from 11:30 to 3:08. Not much of a window of opportunity :/
