Here is how things stand. I went to talk to Carl. He brought up some big problems, but they are problems that I think I can solve if I write a good, solid introduction. I need to lay out the model I am presenting very very clearly. I should explain what the elements are, which I can do. I am going to make some brief points about things here. This will require me to re-write some things, but not anything really substantial. I already know that I need to change some things in my Nevis chapter: I need better comparative tables, and I may actually just lump the analysis of the two sites together. It is stronger that way.

Parts of my model include: things that should be present being present. The porcelain at the Barcadares is kind of sketchy, because there *is* so little of it. On the other hand.... They're living in *tents*! WTH do they need fancy expensive porcelain for>? o_O It's presence at all is an anomaly, especially when the lack of other wares is taken into account. Evidence of lots of drinking is another part of it. Communal foodways is another. Little diversity of wares and vessel forms. High amounts of tobacco pipes.

My big problems are, as always, the following: how to distinguish pirates from mariners, and the fact that I only have one site to work with.

Anyway. I think I can do this still. I *don't* know if i can do this soon enough. *sigh*

Ahh well, tomorrow is a whole new day of doing nothing but thesis thesis thesis :p
