Well, that turned out pretty much exactly how people were expecting it to, so I'm not surprised. I am pleased to see more NDP in parliament though: good for them! My riding went liberal, of course. I'm also glad to see a relatively high voter turnout. Yay!

Now, I am going to make a long-term prediction. I bet this government will last another two years. We know Paul Martin isn't coming back. I am making a bet that the liberal take this time to clean up,, or at least change their clothes and put on some fresh deodorant, and that Frank McKenna will be back in politics, at the head of the party and as PM of Canada, fresh back from the US with good connections to protect our interests there (or that's how they'll bill it). ten years on, and ten years off... it's like they planned it this way. And then the world will phear the power of... the Hustler!

edit: I'm not alone in my thinking. Frank Frank Frank!

I will say that although I'd vote for Frank again in a second, I'm not sure I would vote Liberal, necessarily. It would depend on a bunch of things. Of course, depending on what happens between now and then, I may or may not even be able to vote. Depends on when it is called, and where I've been living :/

we could be so lucky as to have a Frankie boy in office. Then maybe some of our student loans would be forgiven :P

I'll never forget what he said during the whole "Miramichi River is polluted by REPAP" thing.

"There is nothing wrong with the water in the Miramichi River, *wink* I've been walking on it for years."

ahh Liberal humor

Two years for the government, you think? I'm hoping they can play nice until it's time to really have another election again -- that is to say, in four or five years. Well, depending on how the Conservatives play their cards, that is. I may want them out next month.

Well, two years is average for a minority government, that's what I'm going by. Let's see how they do. I'm kind of afraid that they are going to play nice this round, and hope for more control before they start bringing out the crazy guns with a majority next election. It would be the clever thing to do: see how any people they can lull into a false sense of security :p

Funny, I remember talking to a British friend when the last minority was elected and him saying "How many terms do you figure the minority will last?" TERMS. Not years. I guess they can actually keep it together in the UK, and ever since it's raised my standards for what minorities should be in Canada.

And I'm not sure about the Conservatives being able to keep quiet. It seems to me that the crazy element is so very crazy that they might not be able to keep their mouths shut for even two years. Didn't some of them start their intolerant yap as soon as they thought they'd get a majority but before the election happened (and how stupid are they)? I mean, last election, Harper himself walked into the maritimes and INSULTED the populace -- for some reason he thought that would be a smart idea. Face it, as a party, they're not known for their ... er ... restraint.

Well... the more the let the crazies out, the less a change they will have of getting reelected. At least, I hope.

I'm actually sort of hoping the opposite -- that the crazies will go back into their cages, the Conservatives will start resembling more the PC party of old (for real, not just faking it), and we'll actually have a viable right wing alternative in this country -- politically and fiscally conservative, as opposed to morally conservative.

Yeah, that would also be good, but as you said above, they haven't really been known for their restraint of the crazy :/

*sighs* Yeah. I know. I keep my optomism, because the alternative is to find an unclaimed island somewhere and set up a government of one (or, well, two. I'd take my husband. He could be the Official Opposition.)

Well, no one is going to *want* to call an election, at least. Certainly, no one is going to want to pay for one :p In the best case scenario: the crazies remain well leashed, and we get a full 4-5 years of responsible conservatives balanced by the other parties.

I'm not sure if the worst case would be another election in two years, or that the crazies run rampant but everyone else is too timid of forcing another election to properly reign them in.

Anyway... I am generally satisfied with how things went last nihht, let's just see how they go from here.

I've heard rummours about Belinda Stronach thinking about running for Leader

There are all kinds of rumours about who might run, but I'm not convinced that she'd really have a chance, being such a recent turncoat recruit.
