Hi internets!

I slept a very long time yesterday, and had some very strange dreams.

Last night was the first time in a while I can remember having very strange elaborate dreams. There were a few and they were loosely connected. I think there may have been more elements, and I have definitely forgotten more about the earlier ones, but lets see! I did a point form so I hopefully don't forget as much as I write them out ;p

The earliest bits are much more hazy. I my actual real awake like, I have been considering building (or having built) a platform bed in my room, because it would be cool and I like sleeping in enclosed spaces, and I cold get some more storage out of it, and maybe book shelves. I have a vague concern that my bedroom is basically under the upstairs bathroom though and that I think the only reason I didn't have issues when the toilet overflowed last time is that I have a tin ceiling.

In my *dream* I had been working towards building this maybe, and something had happened, and there was water leaking out of the ceiling. I don't think it was from the bathroom - something was going on and I was able to mostly resolve it from inside my room (It might have been something in the walls?). In the process, something from whatever valve or what not I was dealing with fell on my arm, punctured it and managed to embed itself in my skin. I didn't deal with it. I had to move everything except my bed out of the room, or at least away from that side of the room, and I got busy doing that.

Somehow, tangentially related in a way I don't really remember, I wound up on my laptop, looking things up online. There was some stuff I was dealing with, or information I wanted to safeguard (Maybe one of my storage devices got wet and I wanted to put the info from it online to back it up?), and I was trying to figure out where to put it. I have the brilliant thought that if I had my own website I could put it there (Note - I do have basically my own website at rocksfall). So I wanted to see if there was an elanya domain I could have.

The first one I looked up was elanya.com. This was the website for some kind of eastern European neofolk festival, with videos form various bands. It was an official site with logos from various governments they had gotten funding from, but the only one I remember (or remarked on) was Canada's. I played the first video (or else it was autoplay, I'm not sure), and it was a bunch of people (like at least 20) in these elaborate stilt costumes doing some kind of circle dance. The only part of the (fairly long) name of the song (or band? not sure which) I could understand was 'comedy'. It was very jaunty, and there was a bit of a lilt or spring to it that my awake brain wants to liken to the beginning of 'The Mariner's Revenge Song' by the Decemberists, combined with something by The Moon and the Nightspirit. In the background of one of the shots either form this video or the next one, I saw one of my friends from England sitting in the shade watching. I also had the strong sense that people in the videos were aware that I was watching them, and were watching back and knew me.

Well!

Since that was taken, I decided to look at elanya.ca. At this point, regardless of where I'd started, I was back in my room, and the bed was unmade (as in no covers), but maybe dry by then? It felt like there was more space, so maybe I have less furniture jammed in here, or my dream room was just larger. I was sitting at my computer chair with my laptop on its usual TV tray, but it was up against the wall (there is no space for this really, but whatever). I typed in the domain name...

And then rather than just watching videos from a festival, I somehow found myself at one! I was sitting in the shade of a large tree, and there was a castle (?) nearby and there were people in very elaborate garb.... It was clearly not a precise time period, but more of a ~feel~ of a quasi-medieval setting. It seemed fairly strict about not having obviously modern things, like plastic or garish modern prints, but for example not everyone was wearing hats, and I remember someone with a hair fascinator made of peacock feathers. I was sitting under this tree trying to figure out what was happening when a little black goat came up and climbed in my lap. I gave it some pets, and its owner came along shortly. She asked me my name, but really she was asking my in-setting name. I wasn't sure what it was supposed to be, and whether Elanya was appropriate, but that's what I told her, with some hesitation, and she approved. She was wearing a long black (or dark blue?) dress with a golden chatelaine and a white headwrap/hat thing, also with gold to hold it in place - very 15th century fancy lady on the whole. She wandered on from there, after we talked a bit. I did *not* ask what all was happening. She went on her way with her goat, and someone else came by and was talking to me. They also had a black goat, though this one was larger, but it lay down and wriggled so I would give it belly scritches (all the goats, even in my dream, absolutely made me think of my friend Zari). This other woman and I were talking some too, and I don't remember all of it, but she said she was here from 'York-Summerville', which was about a 6 hour drive, and she thought it was about the same as mine. From this I realized I must have come here with friends from Sheffield, and I went to find them.

It was very hot (proper hot, not UK hot) and sunny, and when I did find them, we were seated on benches in... something like a church? It was indoors, in any case. People were talking about how to beat the heat, but it was things like drink lots of water, cover the back of your neck when you are outside. Mostly it was dudes talking. Someone had a bad burn and someone (Tim?) said that what they needed was to drink some salty water. I didn't speak up in this discussion but I ws thinking that he must mean electrolytes. I also wondered why they didn't just use sunscreen - in my head I was thinking about the things we did at larp on hot days, but I knew the audience would not be receptive to a lot of it because they didn't think of larp as having the same kind of immersive ambiance. They were all very committed to maintaining the aesthetic of the event, and didn't like the idea of carrying bottles of gatorade or the like. But come on guys. Sunscreen!

After this I was wandering around some vendors with a friend (not a real person, but someone I knew in the dream). She was trying to get me to look at jewelry that she or someone she knew had made, but it was all the cheapest nonsense you can get off of etsy, but at fancy festival prices. I was trying to be polite about it, but it was really not my thing. We then walked by a booth that had a lot of 19th century style transferware coffee pots, and she was trying to convince me that they would be good water jugs and I was, in my head 'you have no idea what these are, they just look vaguely old/old timey to you...'. They also at this shop had a yellow wash basin that is very like one(s?) I have seen from 19th century contexts that we have at work.

That was most of the dream, but I remember, possibly, being back in my room and wondering what had happened to my arm and my bed, which I may have woken up sleeping in? Or I was starting to wake up, and was in my actual bed, and the dream just ran with it. I looked at my arm and there was a small open hole, and when I felt around it I could still find and move the piece of metal or plastic or whatever that had been driven in there. It was gross and annoying, but I knew I was going to have to go and get it removed.

And that's basically when I woke up. There are more elements that I remember but I don't know how to fit them in. I think I saw someone with a car either packing or unpacking at the festival thing, and that's how I knew it was people in costumes and not that I had been transported to another world or something, but I don't remember when. Maybe when I was talking to the person with the big goat.

FTR, elanya.com is up for sale by some Chinese domain provider. elanya.ca is the personal website of a student named Elanya Dejesus who is studying urban planning at the university of Waterloo :o

I like the interplay between reality/plausible things and fantasy here! Also, update if you do end up making a platform bed.

I wonder why goats, specifically.
