Sadly I don't have anywhere to watch it tonight :(

But I did want to say that whether or not we see anything overtly supernatural, that doesn't preclude it from being a legitimate way of interpreting what is going on. I keep seeing posts saying that we are not going to see anything, therefore this isn't "that kind of show", and I think that's doing a disservice. It doesn't have to be explicit. We don't need to see the King in Yellow show up, waving tentacles. We don't need to visit Carcosa. None of that is necessary for the story. But reading it in doesn't hurt - its interesting, and Nic Pizzolatto wouldn't have put it in if he didn't want us to consider the possibility. If Marty and Rust get their men, so to speak, if doesn't preclude the possibiliyt that these powerful men were colluding with otherwordly powers! Saying "its not that kind of show" feels dismissive to me, like not going the supernatural route somehow makes it "better". The ambiguity is, to me, part of the appeal.

That said, I do think that one of the draws of using a known fictional cult for the villains is that it sidesteps the issue of tar-brushing any actual real world religion with the idea that they are murderous pedophiles. They're using the revival churches as a cover, but it is just a cover - it's not what they do. He could have made up something, but from a metatextual perspective, it feels safer. But clever. That's all for now - see you again on Monday :3
