Heather's Great Bahamian Adventure, Day Eight: The Historian Formerly Known as...

Short recap today, because I am draaaaaained! I am probably going to bed fairly early tonight, which is fair as I was up early this morning after being up too late finishing another book!

Caught the ferry this am - a two hour ride. Got to harbour island, asked at the Tourism office for people i should talk to, and they pointed me to a guy whose real name I apparently *didn't* write down, but who everyone knows as Prince. He is retired and does tour guiding now, and guided me around to various town sights and tlold me various Dunmore town history facts and such. This was after I wandered about on my own, and wandered off to the Pink Sands beach, where the sands were not *quite* as pink as I was hoping, but still pretty. I only played a bit, as I had a lot of stuff to do and see!

Caught the ferry back, went back to the Bahamian Kitchen for take away and escaped back to my hotel with food to crash for a bit after a nice chat with the owner. ran into Donny (The realtor guy) for the third time - he is super nice!

I also should say that I went to a really nice Indian place last night - the Clay Oven, and have a lentil and beans on rice thing, after a veggie samosa, and with some garlic nan. Yum!

I am going to go back the the BK at some point - the owner was talking up the turtle steak, and I admit I am curious! Mmmm, turtle...(?)

Heather's Great Bahamian Adventure Day Eight: Victory!

Yay! I finally got to meet with my contact here! He is a really nice, if busy, guy. They are in the middle of preparing one site as a national Historic Park, and are behind schedule because of rain.... And then this afternoon they got a message from the Minister of Education that he wanted their report on why they should have the building that all their offices are centered around as the site for the National Museum.... Today. So he was a bit harried while I was there, but he took me with him while he dropped off the report and gave me a bit of a tour, answered my questions, chatted about this and that, and so forth. He also lent me some reports to look through - I guess I was complaining of running out of reading material :V Amusingly they are all by The Archaeological and Historical Conservancy, a name which I'm sure will be familiar to a *few* people on this list ;) So i am going to email them to see about getting a copy of at least one of those reports, and see if they have more maps and such of the areas involved.

Tomorrow I am going to undertake my Harbour Island Adventure :o In preparation for that, I am going to take an easy night in. Then Wednesday I will try Spanish Wells, maybe, and then Thursday and Friday at lands and Surveys. Saturday I can have to go back to any of the Islands, if I think necessary. Or just to chill out and go over stuff. And Sunday is another Beach day :) I hope that I have time for some beaching at Harbour island, because it apparently has the nicest beach in the Caribbean.... and it is pink! :D

So a quiet night - probably means reading and/or the internets, after dinner. Which I think I will venture out for soon, as I only had a sub for lunch. Although maybe I will go out to one of the nearby crappy beaches for a while, maybe, hmmm....

What to do, what to do!

I am trying to decide what to do tomorrow - I think Lands and Surveys would be a good bet, and try for an afternoon or lunch meeting with my contact here, maybe? But I'd need somewhere to call him from... decisions decisions....

Heather's Great Bahamian Adventure Day Four: Okay Maybe Not Really

Maybe next year I'll be in a position to write about the zombiepocalypse happening without freaking too many people out because I'm off visiting foreign lands ;)

My day was pretty much as I said up to the walk home - it did rain, and I revelled at bit ;) And I made it to the hotel and took a shower. I shoudl have stood out in the rain to wet my hair but by then it had fizzled out :p I dressed in dry clothes (my brown leather sandals are *soaked*! It fills my heart with sadness. I'm actually wearing flipflops atm :p There another irrational hate for your list, Rum :V), and went out for food. Tonight's culinary adventure actually involved the greek cafe, because I went out for food before all the fooderies were closed. I spent almost 40$ on hummus, spanikopita and baklava :V But it was good, yum! And then I came here. And I found that when their system is running, I can't actually use my USB key, so thank Cat for finding me online jhava irc. not that there is anyone on there, you bunch of jerks! And my time is almost up - time to go back and read, and organize myself, and hope that my bookbag dries out. Hey, at least I wasn't carrying my laptop!

Also, I did order some maps to look at tomorrow, and I'm not especially confuident that they will be at all useful so :/ I think in the afternoon I'll go try and visit my contact. I'd invite him for luinch, but I don't know 100$ where he works, or where there are food places nearby :o

ta all!

*huggles*

Organizing myself

I was slower still leaving the hotel today - in fact I am still here, because I wanted to check some things on the internet.

I'm afraid I'm already running out of things to look at in the archives. I'll know for sure by the end of the day. I think I'm goig to try and meet with my contact here tomorrow, and maybe next week I can go out to see some of the Out Islands and talk to folks there and such. There are ferries, though I'm not having too much luck tracking down the prices... Well, looks like about 110 for a day trip to any of the places I want to see. But Harbour Island is small, at least... And I hear that Spanish Wells is an incredibly.... insulated community :o Like - degenerative genetic conditions insulated. WIth dwarves. :x

We'll see!

Okay - going to the archives now. Going to ask about maps. If they don't have much for me to look at, I'll stop in to some of the museums that will be on my way back along Shirley street. Yes, that is what I will do... I kind of *don't* want them to have more for me to look at, at this point ;)

Heather's Great Bahamian Adventure day 2: The Will to Live

This is longer than it looked when I typed it up in notepad :o )

I did find a cafe with decent rates, alas they are only open until 8:45, so I can't play any games that start late or run late :p Booo! I'll look around some more, maybe, but I think this may be it :/
