I have many things I want to write about and do!
I went up to Montreal for Christmas this year, and it was all in all pretty damned awesome. I saw (and stayed with) my sister and brother in law and their two adorable toddlers, and a slew of other friends including the ever lovely
naryrising and her husband and son, plus
mousme and
gats and
sorceror and some new folks (LSG Raverly folks) and others I'm no doubt forgetting! The big downside to the trip was getting sick last Friday. I'm still recovering, and took today off work.
I'm trying to recall specific stand-out things - Christmas with the kids was really awesome - they were so excited about things! Really only the oldest is old enough to really understand, but they both had a lot of fun. And Christmas dinner (toddler meltdowns nonwithstanding) was amazing. My sister made goose, and why anyone would ever have anything else ever I cannot comprehend. What, just because it is a pain in the ass and needs preparation the day before it is actually cooked, and is super fatty and also tricky to get right? It is worth it. Goose done right is amazingly delicious. Also my brother in law makes killer roasted potatoes. And there was sweet potato dressing and two kinds of pie and om nom nom nom nom. Oh and mead, sweet sweet hydromiel... (I have a bottle that I brought home, and am saving it for a special occasion of some sort). All it all it was a pretty sweet day!
I got to go to two knitting meet-ups, one at a nice Irish pub where I had some really good fish and chips (though they were criminally out of Baileys creme brulée), and one at a little café where they had really tasty cakes and tea. Sadly that was last Friday and I was already starting to come down ill and was probably not as engaging as I could have been. Still it was nice to hang out with other knitfolks :)
We watched some quality cinema as well - Harvey (the Jimmy Stewart movie), which is one of the BIL's Christmas traditions, and the instant Classic Ghost Shark :V We had wanted to watch some other Hitchcock flicks as well, but didn't manage to um, acquire them >.> fast enough. I also got drawn into watching Person of Interest, and will probably start watching that in earnest soon.
I spent a lot of time playing with the boys "You can sit here, Auntie Lannie!" "You can play with me!" "Debout-toi, Auntie Lannie! No sleeping!" "Animaux?" Toddlers rise early in the morning. they are merciless. And adorable. I think my first morning I had toddler shellshock. the second day, they went to daycare, but I went along to drop them off and we left the house before 8 I think... And then we went shopping. Oh and to a Korean BBQ place! Man, so many things!
The two worst things about getting sick were, I think, missing out on meeting up with
framlingem and missing out on all the delicious food that was around the house - chocolates and bread pudding and pie and cheesecake and cookies and so many other random snacks. The fact that I have Christmas candy left at all is pretty telling, really.
Anyway, I will go to bed early tonight and go to work tomorrow and hope for the best. It is only one day to the weekend, so I should be able to survive... I might take a tylenol with codeine now, in fact, and if it knocks me out, sweet! and if it doesn't, the caffeine should wear off before it is too late. Meanwhile, I have yulefic to read!
