Nero-tic
I haven't read it all, of course, but I read all the nero-y bits: bits he is in, and bits where people talk about him at length.
The story that Spock Prime tells Kirk about the destruction of Romulus is possibly even more conflicting with Countdown than what is in the movie. This mostly makes me wish that ADF had been made to read Countdown, or at least given the scripts for it along with his other source material. Ahh well.
There is nothing in here about Rura Penthe. However Nero does tell pike that he essentially made a vow of silence until he would have his revenge. So that's cool! However he does talk some in the Rura Penthe scene from the trailer, where he proclaims that 'the wait is over!", but we'll see how that all plays out :) We will get those scened on the DVD, and I will be happy. Everything will be *fine*. He also speaks in the scene where Spock Prime returns... Of course we still see no scenes between the two.
Ayel is a bit more lippy here - it seems as though Nero starts to lose control of the crew a bit after Vulcan - there is a bit of "wasn't that enough?" Nero says: no. Shocking. The book makes it clear that he also plans to destroy the star that is going to explode, he just thinks that vengence, and creating a context where Romulus can flourish free of federation influence is more important. He doesn't expect to be thwarted, you see ;)
I read a thing today which suggested Nero/Pike, and the book is even *more* slashy in regards to their interactions. While he is starting to drill Earth (as a side note, he and Ayel wonder why we didn't name the planet 'water', and also think it is pretty ;) Nero decides to let Pike live, because he likes him. Yeah. think of the potential there, with brain-slug pike and all...
Okay slash aside, Nero is sort of a weird villain. He's okay with genocide and destroying entire planets, but he doesn't seem all that gung-ho on killing his actual enemies. Well, aside from Robau. But he doesn't kill Spock prime - he just sends him off the ship. Because he couldn't have appreciated the destruction of Vulcan from the Narada? Who knows. Time stream trying to rectify itself, yeeees. ¬_¬ And he doesn't seem at all inclined to kill Pike, and mostly just goes on about how he's a pretty cool guy. He even gives him anesthetic for the slug! He doesn't kill Quintos Spock either. And he doesn't even take the time to finish off Kirk! i don't even know. Crazy Romulans :V
Okay, I think that's all I've got for now.
Nero has some pretty cracked out ideas about time travel. Damnit man, he's a miner, not a physicist! Geology =/ time travel. Insert joke about getting rocks off.

I registered for classes for grad school 2.0 today. I'm crossing my fingers for a drama free experience unlike ecu.

I cannot promise how long I will stay engaged with Fandom, especially as I leave for field stuff in a week -_-
I actually have a DW already. Same bat name! Different bat channel.
And where are you going this time? More conservationy stuff, or something new and shiny?

Still, Star Trek is like the Ur fandom. And think shiny, shiny angst!
I'm going to Duquesne this time, technically for Public History, but with a strong Museum Studies/Conservation bent. (Otherwise known as look at me skip all the history parts of public history.) I wanted to do a true conservation MA, but living in Buffalo for three years at this point isn't going to happen and Duq had the best local program. It's really weird, there are crucifixes and priest everywhere, and every form I fill out asks for Religion. I am getting proficient at checking OTHER. Private school is weird :)

Well clearly he does believe in suffering rather than just murdering, but I dunno if that has any relation to the afterlife. I know little of Romulan religion, though I'm sure there is info on the internet @_@
