Today on the D&D test kitchen, we investigated how many round of combat it takes for a player to get a cake in to the oven.

This was a Legend of the Five Rings game, with players that are experienced but a little out of practice, keep that in mind when you are tryng to gauge this for your own purposes. It was a large battle, with five PC's against an NPC army. It took just short of two full rounds to get the cake ready, and that includes softening the butter in the microwave - a step that can be eliminated with a little pre-planning!. It does *not* include cleanup, as, due to efficient teamwork and some rampant badassery on the part of the Crab samurai and one of the Phoenix Shugenja, the battle only lasted two full rounds anyway. This just demonstrates that party effectiveness is just one more factor to keep in mind when you are multi-tasking baking and gaming! That's right, if your team is too good, you might not have a round left for cleanup.

The cake in question was a tomato soup cake - a fairly easy recipe for a very delicious spice cake, doubled to fit in a larger pan.

Happy baking, and keep those twenties rolling! :V

I am amazed that I have never heard of such a delight as a "tomato soup cake" before now.

The very concept is a bit frightening to me.
