Although I suppose it isn't really New Years in Korea until later ;p
I had weird dreams last night, probably brought on by all the stuff I've been reading - Tintin and Fables and a mid-80's Shadow comic that I bought at hastings yesterday when I went on a movie buying binge. Part of me feels like I should save Christmas for better things, but I already bought some clothes, so hey.
Anyway, dream. It was complex. I remember the last bit - I was on a train with someone else. Some guy, who was clearly supposed to be Prince Charming was sucking all these girls out of their money, and he'd gotten some friend of mine (loosely based on Sas, only with a Broiklin Accent) to liquidate her estate so they go go (back?) to New Yoik. Somehow the Decepticons were involved, at least in trying to stop me convincing her she was being used. Charming had some kind of sway over her that meant she wouldn't just listen to facts. I couldn't get her to come with me (I don't know why he wasn't there himself, who knows in dreams) but I knew that if we could find the Decepticons she'd believe me then! This involved getting her out of her seat - she wouldn't come out into the aisle, so I got her to move to the side by he windows, where there was another narrower aisle where people had left a lot of their carry-on. Here, we found a case that had Rumble hiding inside it in tape form. At that point, she believed me, but the Decepticon wasn't willing to show himself for whatever reason (afraid of breaking cover foe some reason). So we decided to play him over the train! he was clearly labeled: Rumble:'Ole Boys '64. Now you might expect a tape with rumble to play some kind of really obnoxious music, but much to his hilarious embarrassment, it sounded more like the Byrds or something along those lines. In fact it kind of sounded like the opening to the Partridge Family theme :V It was awesome. Then we found a bunch of other Decepticon-labeled tapes, but most were actually tapes. There was one marked Starscream's Brigade. Oprah gave me permission to play them all - they belonged to her. And then I woke up to take out the dog.
Oh! I just remember an earlier bit where I was writing up an LJ entry in black marker on some underwear and other laundry. I was hanging out with Cat, but had accidentally double booked myself because I was supposed to be doing something with Sas at the same time. I'm not sure why we couldn't just all hang out together. Cat was more insistent though. Anyway, I needed to write down the lj entry right then so I wouldn't forget! It was about how icon making seems to be a more 'socially acceptable' way of contributing to fandom than fanfic, necause everyone needs icons, but fanfic can be seen as kind of self-indulgent and has a more limited address. This was based on me remembering a post I'd seen in
tf_animated, where I was looking at TF icons yesterday, which said something along the lines of "Look, I don't just write fanfic - here's something for everyone!" While I really was looking at icons there last night, I don't remember if there was such a post, or what I think about the appeal of fanfic over icons and their respective contributions to fandom o_O But I sure had a lot to say about it in my dream! This was well before the train bit. Probably the fact that I remember so many of these dream bits explains why I don't feel very well rested this morning :p
I woke up feeling drugged, although all I took yesterday was an allegra. I don't know if it is my level of sleep affecting my allergies, or if I am coming down with a cold, or what. Some days I am fine, other days I kind of would prefer my head to explode. Today is somewhere in the middle, and my tea is tasting kind of gross for some reason. Bleh. Mini oingages are better. Today, I am hoping to finish writing my SHA talk. I know I've *been* saying that, but i didn't know when my actual deadline was to get it to the session discussant. Apparently it is only the 5th. But I'd like to have ti in well before then. I still need to make the accompanying powerpoint, too, so we'll see. I don't need to send that in though!
I also washed fabric yesterday for some sewing projects. Which reminds me, I really ought to print out the instructions on how to make an apron dress for Mary and Rogan's wedding :o First, I have some lovely orange and gold brocade that I want to make a jacket out of. I bought the thread and everything for it already, so I should probably get on that! It actually matches with he wool Mary sent me, strangely enough, which I only noticed as they are both sitting together in my sewing 'in-box'. If I was sure I'd have enough left for the dress, I'd steal some to make complimentary cuffs! Ahh well. I can always change the cuffs later if I will have any wool. I think the stuff I have got picked out is a little pale - I'll check my box for something better. I also have a ton of white linen-blend that I want to make address of some kind with. Because I have so many occasions to wear white dresses, see ;p Anyway, maybe i'll get to that later today.
I'd also like to get on with some writing projects. I kind of feel like I should work on some more original stuff, but I don't have any good solid ideas. I also might want to re-tool happiness man and send it somewhere else - i got a rejection letter from On Spec last week, finally. I was waiting for that :V I clearly haven't submitted enough stuff yet, because I still find them to be generally not soul crushing. Maybe they like to give you false hope when they say things like 'this was good but not for our market, but send us more stuff!', but I'll take it :V There were also some other comments on the letter that was more critical (but constructively), so I can also be sure they read it :) And that's always nice. We'll see. That's a lot of stuff to do!
Other things I should do include - call Laura, tidy my house, make orange cranberry (or craisin) scones because I bought that organic orange, so I may as well get something tasty out of the rind! Could put stuff away and do some filing in the study too, I suppose. Half tempted to walk to Walmart and check their tfs again - still looking for that Masterpiece Starscream... Target had restocked when I was poking in there yesterday (didn't get anything though - I was mostly pricing dvds). The gym will be open soon, so I can start going back, but meanwhile I like to have a destination for walking, since none of the parks are very far or very big. I suppose f I were feeling really ambitious I could walk out to the theater and go see a movie. We'll see. My NYE is looking pretty flat atm though. As far as i know, pretty much no one is back yet. I could walk out to Northgate, maybe, but....eh. Why would I want to do that by myself? I'll probably just hang out online and have some amaretto and a scone :)
Enough blathering - tea is starting to kick in, so I may as well get to work on my SHA presentation!
