I just saw Elizabeth II: Revenge of the Catholics.

Leaving aside all the other historical issues, how could you make a movie that is ostensibly about the Spanish Armada and not even mention Sir Francis Drake?

It boggles the mind...

I heard that the Armada was defeated by Sir Walter Ooh-what-a-big-ship-I've-got Raleigh and his penis-ship!

I think you'll find that was a flaming penis-ship, missy!

My mistake ;)

Although the wiki page for the movie does claim that "Raleigh and Sir Francis Drake set their ships on fire, set their sails to steer into the heart of the fleet and jump overboard." Maybe he had an uncredited cameo? ;) Or else wiki is on crack, which is quite possible.

There is a scene with Raleigh and other captains consu;ting about the fireships, and someone else (who would, historically have been Drake) suggests them. He calls Ralleigh his old friend, I think. But he isn't in the credits and he isn't named in the movie, assuming it is supposed to be Drake...

Nooo kidding!

But Clive Owen is very pretty. That counts for something right? And the costumes were fantastic.

Can't have a dashing pirate running around the movie when Clive Raleigh Owen is supposed to be the hunky love interest.

Yeah, well, I can't blame him for being so hot, really. Really Owen plays Ralleigh-Drake, the dashing colony founding pirate. -_-

Wait. No Drake? What the hell?

I know :V

I was hoping they would do the scene where he and a bunch of others are playing golf (or croquet?) when they hear the Spanish are in the channel, and he's all casually "Let's finish the round, boys, we've got plenty of time."

Yeah. I've been hearing the sequel just isn't as good as the first movie. Go figure. :-P
