How can it seem like a long day when I didn't get up even 13 hours ago? :o

The simple answer is that I left my glasses in Fredericton and had a lot of alcohol at dinner.

I bet if I left ti at that, there would be bitter people out there who are just dying to know the details of my life. At least, I'll entertain myself by pretending there are ;D

Today I worked on my three day novel for Shan's long running contest. I promised Dave that if he didn't have his minimum of five by the time I got home that I would do one. The only reason I hadn't entered before was that the contest was announced when I was in the middle of doing serious dissertation writing.

I like to do writing by hand sometimes, but when I don't have my glasses, I find it gets hard on my eyes, and makes me tired. My own stupid fault... I knew I was planning on writing and I just didn't put them in my bag :o Anyway, I started yesterday, kind of, but today I covered about ten pages in my journal. I've got my two main characters together, and now what happens to them is a bit of a mystery to me. I know the basic gist of my plot, and I guess I'll just go where it takes me. The voice I'm using is very different from stuff I've done before... as I said before, I'm feeling the influence of Highsmith. I'll post it here once the contest is done...whenever that may be. This story is a lot more straightforward than my last entry, though. Maybe I won't annoy any of the judges this time ;)

The other really cool thing I got to do this evening was hang out with [livejournal.com profile] fionasidhe. She's in the E Media program at the community college, although it wasn't what she really wantded to do (go to culinary school. Iron Chef Danielle! Or would that be Iron Chef Miramichi?). She seems to be doing well, and it was nice to see her again, too. I met her at school, then we taxi's across the river to the douglastown mall, and splurged on a huuuuge meal at Jungle Jim's (a place with the frightening slogan of 'Eat Your Face Off!' which actually has really good food and mmmm... tasty cocktails!). I had monteray chicken and a hot fudge brownie sundae, and we split a hurricane (cocktail of DOOM! Yum. :). It was a bit expensive, but worth it!

After that, we sauntered over to blockbuster and picked up a copy of Brotherhood of the Wolf. I accidentally grabbed a dubbed copy, but, whatever. It was still cool. We came back to dad's and I showed her some of my pictures... some of the ones from the dig, and the Edinburgh Beltane Fire Festival, and of other ruins. And Stonehenge, too, since I thought she'd like them and also I just happened to be able to find them easily. I have soooo many pictures. It took me and dad about three hours to get through them all ;)

We also watched part of Brotherhood of the Wolf, but she had to leave and it is a long movie, so she didn't get to see the whole thing. There is so much going on in that film that I forgot half the subplots :o

Anyway, now I'm all tired from all the writing and the alcohol, but in a good mood because I feel like I did a lot of work (as far as writing goes) and I had a good time tonight. Even though Danielle did try to make me eat her dessert as well! ("You lost a lot of weight in England, so you have to eat more of this. I want my earth Mother back!") Arr! Anyway, nbow Fishy-Fishy is trying to distract me into staying up longer because he is bored. I may indulge him unless I become completely incoherent, but either way, I need a drink of water!
Mood:: 'thirsty' thirsty
