elanya: Sumerian cuneiform 'Dingir' meaning divine being/sky/heaven (Default)

I didn't get caught init this time, though. I left in better time, and go to the archives at about 10:20. I waited to leave becaue it was raining, see... I looked at the map I'd requested, and at the grant book, and shook my head - not much I can do with it. I am going to go to the Lands and Surveys department next week and see what I can do there, if anything.

I left around 2, I think, and walked back along Shirley street, trying to decide if I was right about where my contact's office is here. I *think* I know, but I'm not *sure*... Instead I went on a museum adventure! First stop was the Historical Society museum. they had some random cool stuff, like a map of Nssau and the harbour from about 1723 or so. It was wicked cool - I coveted it. They *also* had Thomas Walker's gravestone. You know - the apple guy? Yeah, him, And with a big skull and cross bones, hour glass and coffin on it. It was definitely the real thing too. The inscription read:

In Memory of Thomas Walker Sen.
Late Chief Justice of the islands.
Alice his widows relict
this monument has plact

Obt 23 August 1728
Aged 63

This is especially hilarious because at least two people had tried to boot Walker out of his position as Chief Justice before he died, but he just refused to go :V Tenacious old bastard, hee! One of my favourite Bahamian historical characters.

Of course, we all know who my first love is, and we had a close encounter at the Pirates of Nassau museum, which is a wicked cool wax museum. I snuck into the display so I coud get a picture of me with him - yes, I'm that obsessed. But he even had scars :V! Alas I can't post pictures yet. I'll have a whole Woodes Rogers shrine by the time I'm through, I'm sure ^-^

After that, it was back to the hotel for a nap and some stargate, because it was raining again. Again.

Food report: went to a Thai place for a late lunch, had green curry. And Found I didn't really want the chicke, though the curry itself was deeelicious. This evening I went to the Bahamian Kitchen, and had grouper fingers, peas and rice, and fried plantains. Yummy! There was a local guy there who wanted to sit and talk with me, and while I don't normally care about that sort of thing (see Haitians day 3), tonight I am in a loner-y kind of mood and not as much up to random conversations with drunk guys. 9Did I mention the haitians were mixing really striong rum and cokes for themselves? I may have forgotten that...)

After dinner, I came here tho throw more money at the internet.

Oh also: rats! There was a swarm of rats in the alley behind the hotel tonight. A swarm! Sopme of them were as big as Artemis! I pretend like I was all nonchalant about the fact that they are scurring around in the garbage there, three stories below my window.... but they were big! And there were a lot of them! So I'm kind of like "Awww, cute ratties! Stay over there D:"

I thinik that's all. But I did change my desktop image to a pic of Woodes Rogers. <3
