Cat gave me a link to this article about a social experiment by the Washington Post. What *does* happen when a classical virtuoso poses as a street performer in the capitol? Kind of makes me sad....

Location, timing and type of music were all part of the experiment.
It might be sad, but for many people it was a wakeup call, I know 6 months ago I would have been one of the ones to just zip on by, not necessarily out of guilt, more out of scheduling and the go-go-go mentality.
That might quantify the pocketbook, but certainly in time I learned doesn't do anything much to the quality of your life - you've got no time to live it, cept maybe a few weeks a year and the odd holiday (but really those did get in the way too).
That's how I took the article, I wouldn't have been one to stay the entire time, it would have still depended somewhat on my schedule, but I certainly could have missed a subway or two with another 2-3minutes away to start my day on such a note.
Took a climatic life change for me to see that perspective again, but I'm certainly glad I did, I still make decent money, but it's at something I really enjoy, and now I've got weekends, nights and well, time for family, friends and heck just me.
