Gimme that cock?

So. Tomorrow I have to hand in my topic for my second project in Anth 602. The project is to take some item of modern material culture and create a scientific typology. It doesn't have to be exhaustive but it has to be useful and needs to be able to be expanded as necessary.

I've really only had one idea about what to do - dildos. On the one hand, it would be kind of awesome. On the other hand, it will be hard to find material to classify... Well I suppose there is always the internet, or maybe a fieldtrip to an Austin sex shop :V

So I'm looking for opinions.

Do you think this is a good idea?

Do you think it is a feasible idea?

Can you think of anything better* I could use?

Better in this case constitutes something more interesting/feasible/easy.

Hell, why not brassieres? They've probably got a lot more publicly available documentation, the subject still has a racy edge, and has far less chance of being considered offensive by prudes - although that may be what you're aiming for anyway.

Sex toys are illegal but marital aids and gag gifts are not. It's a mostly unenforced law, anyway.

Lannie, not that I'm an expert, but I know a lot of sex shops here in Dallas. I guarantee you ours are better than Austin's.

I'd say it depends. How likely is DICKson to take offense? After him being such a royal cock himself, I'd want to make sure that the subject matter wouldn't push buttons that would be better off remaining unpushed.

Kind of your call, really. I don't know enough about him to be useful.

I think the problem with the dildo as a topic is that there is a pretty long history of them which I think could give you some problems with the typology or at least make the project bigger than you intended. I think that bras are a good idea or how about adult magazines. You can actually follow a correlation in the pictures and what is shown in them with various blue laws that were created or repealed in various time periods especially within America.

I don't know if magazine content wouold be aceptable. I might todo bras, unless someone else in the class is - one of the girls in my study group might. And I don't know how far back in time we need to go, so to is hard to say :/

Coke bottles also have a crazy long use, and there are a number of typologies already in use. I think I am going to go with electronic vibrators, just to narrow the range a bit!
