Anyone want to watch a movie or something tonight? For real or via internets? Or even just chat for a bit?

8 hours at school today, not done workin' yet. But I think that dinner and dishes are a legitimate excuse for a break.

ETA: I am watching a terrible pirate movie. It is beautiful beautiful thing. It has a Spanish-German archaeologist who has an *evil twin*. It is a modern pirate movie. It is made in the 80's. It is a thing of ...something. I am not regretting my 4$ investment in Sea Wolf, the Pirates Curse! The huge extrapolation scene just explained that they are looking for some of Montezuma's treasure so they can fork it over to the Mexican government. Hee!

"Gino says the island is haunted. It used to belong to a circus clown. He built a school there, but it never opened. I dunno."
Mood:: 'hungry' hungry
Music:: Various Artists - The Bad Girl's Lament

The IMDB link says it is from 2001, not the 80s, though!

Also, I forgot to mention that my students think it is cool that you study pirate archaeology. :)

How, you might ask, did your research come up in my History of Arch Theory class? Well, you see, I was using tattoos as an example of a trend in material culture that might be studied quantitatively using a Darwinian archaeological approach. I pointed out that while tattoos are fairly common among youth today, in the past they were restricted to certain subcultures, like bikers and military officers. Then someone piped up "Don't forget about pirates!" and so I mentioned that I had a friend who studied the archaeology of pirates, and they all wanted to know whether you were at McGill so they could meet you. Apparently at least one of them is thinking of applying to the A&M maritime program.

Yeah, it *feels* like an 80's movie though! I wrote that part before I looked it up :)

Anyway, I hope your student like drawing ships! :V

Lots of people think pirate arcaheology is cool - I just hope that I can produce something really awesome sooner rather than later, to back it all up ;)

My theory is that drawing ships is an extended liminal phase of an elaborate rite of passage and that one day they will say "OK, well, now you are truly a maritime archaeologist!" And then you will never ever draw a ship ever again.

Sure! Well, I am working on my game for tomorrow, but Julie isn't doing anything, I don't think.
