More on the vein of nostalgia from last night... The topic of this post is kind of an in-joke from the NuRPG days. I miss nu. But I've found that LJ is a great way to keep appraised of, well, at least some people's lives from that era, who have slipped away. Looking at my friends list, I've got the following breakdown: 17 people who I have actually met in real life. 14 people who are people I either met and know only through the internet (2 of whom I have met IRL and so overlap). And 2 people who I know of through the internet and whose journals I have added to keep up with various things that amuse me (Something Positive artist and Cassie Claire of the secret diaries fame). And the LJ maintenance people, but they don't count.

That's a pretty hefty friends list. But I'm glad that I've been able to keep in touch with so many people. I think all but one of my 'internet' friends I met through either the ffrpg or the nurpg, while they lived. I was afraid I'd lose touch with people, which I hate. Before LJ, I had only the vaguest idea what or where any of them might be.. up to. Weird grammar. Hem. And through them, I've been able to keep up with some other people too, like Mani, whose own webpage I've discovered through a link in

Anyway, all of this not losing touch woth people makes me very happy. Although there are some who have slipped through the cracks, alas... (Anyone out there heard of/from J recently? I used to have an e-mail address for him, once upon a time. Hey, maybe I still do!)

Hmm... now I have this idea of trying to contact *more* of these people and seeing how many I can force to get LJ's...

It's a bit strange, though. I read about these people's lives, but in many cases, I haven't actually talked to them or even sent them comment s on their posts. But I get to kow what's going on in their lives and stuff, too, which is nice, and so I still feel connected.

Hem, yes, this is kinda rambly. And in fact not at all the post I had thought I was going to make. I was going to talk about webcomics again. Well, specifically Sluggy Freelance. I remember when I first started reading sluggy, I had told myself, and others, that I would not get sucked into this thing... so of course I did. But in *seeeecret*. Why? I don't know. I guess I didn't feel like announcing to the world my comic allegiances or something. Or making more people feel left out by making copious in-jokes.

So anyway, Sluggy is in the middle of doing another parody. I don't usually like the parodies. I didn't like the buffy one. I don't know what it is... they just seem to lack a certain quality that would make them good satire, and are usually such a contrast in tone to the usual stuff. And I don't mean the occasionaly tribute character, here, I mean when he does parodies of things like Buffy, or in this case Harry Potter.

Anyway, I have keft reading despite the parody, but I find myself amused by little things... Yesterday's comic, for instance, was the quiddich scene parody. And there were copious random Dune refernces! Like quiddich being called Quidsatz Haderach, which probably inspired the whole thing. And today, when Torg (the main character in the strip and put into Harry's role, vaguely) gets challenged the Snape character (Snapekin) to a sandwitch competition (something about Torg calling his potions 'sauces' and saying how tasty they'd be on a sandwitch), this part of the storyline gets called 'A Game of Sandwitches'. Which amuses me even if I never did get to finish reading those George R.R. Martin books. I'll have to buy the first one again for the return plane trip. It would seem somehow appropriately cyclical. Also, I want to read it! :o

Enough of this. I must shower, wake up Mary, and drag her off to the Library with me to see if we can get out any books at all... That's arr! for now!

Yay, Sedge! Of all the characters I ever made, he's still one of my favorites. Being the designated comic relief has its advantages - one of which is that no one's going to suspect that you can actually kick their butt when it comes to a fight. ^_~

Dangit, now I feel the need to bring him back somehow.
