I should know this

Terminologically speaking, do ships have windows? I think portholes are a specific kind of window, and now really what I mean. I am thinking what you would look out if you were standing on the bridge. I keep thinking view port, but maybe that is just having watched too much Star Trek. I can't find anything online, of course. Everything I'm turning up is mostly age of sail stuff. *sigh*

I seem to recall that on warships they are called 'screens'. But I'd check that if I were you.

well, this isn't for a warship - just a research vessel, but I'm still not sure. Stupid ships and their tricksy terminology! Why can't they have doors and stairs and windows like everything else!
