Years ago now, Chris Fougere (of all people) directed me to a site where I could read Shadow pdfs online. I hate reading sthings on line, so I save a couple of the firles so that I could print them and read them later. I eventyually printed one. I don't know where it is, and I can't find the files.

Yesterday, I was bored, and was listening to some of my radio serials, and tonight as, again, I am bored, I thought that i wuld see if I could find those pdfs again. Alas, it is not meant to be. Apparently, someone still owns the copyrights to the stories, and they have all bee pulled. I found a couple of bitter, bitter sites about it though. Ahh well.

Instead, I am getting my Shadow fix by reading *about* The Shadow. Mostly 'cause I am too cheap t shell out ten bucks for an e-text ;)

So anyway. some of you may know that the Shadow is not really Lamont Cranston. No, Cranston (the *real* one) was a completely different guy, who was eventually inducted into the Shadow's network, after the Shadow had been using his name for some time. The Shadow (actually Kent Allard, who was a double agent for the Russians/Americans during WWI) took it after killing lamont's evil twin brother (the rest I knew, this I didn't... woo-hoo for evil twins!) Lafayette Cranston. It's a crazy mad story, and I love it. Did you know that the radio serial was actually a part of the pulps? In the stories, it was used as a cover for various things, and whatnot, as were the stories themselves. It's all very 'meta', really ;) I wish I *could* read more of the pulps, as I've only ever actaully read one or trwo. To be honest, I haven't even listened to all my serials, as I currently have a few hundred of them... but the pulps were so much more complex. He is just such a kickass character. When I grow up I want to be an agent for the Shadow.

Other funfacts:
Kent Allard and Margot lane have a kid whose name is...... Kent Lane! That made me giggle, I tell you. In actual fact, Margot lane, Barbran (Lane) Gordon, and Lois Lane are all related: they are cousins on their fathers' sides... kinda. Barbra and Lois are really cousins, but Margot was adopted as an adult by Lois' dad at the behest of the Shadow, for who he acted as an agent. Somehow, this is all Pillip José farmer's fault.

There is a story, a comic, I believe where, wait for it... BATMAN AND THE SHADOW TEAM UP!!!!!!!!!! If I ever got to read that, I can assre you I would be a very happy Heather, and I would probably need to go and change my undies. (Maybe they kiss! Well, of course they don't. But wouldn't it be *awesome*? :D ) It is Batman 253, apparently. Oh, there are apparently two, as he also shows up in Batman 259. *swoon*

Anyway... it's nifty. Has anyone out there heard of the Wold Newton family theory/thingy before? I assume so, since it is the premise behind The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Crazymadness! Anyway, back to reading :)
