No, really it did! The meeting, that is. I am going to summarize a few things here for myself to think about.

-I need to decide if I am including buccaneers or not, and come up with a suporting argument either way. I thik that I would like to do so, and I know why, it si a matter of expressing it.

-I need to find some comparitive sites.

-I need to think about how I am going to break down places like Port Royal or, say, New York, for my typology. I think I am going to base my typology on pirate activities, in which case they may count as mixed, or commercial or... heck. We shall see.

-I know I dson't have enough sites for a real statistical analysis.

-I really want to look at that thesis that Dr. Ewen has about Poret Royal and commercialism.

I think that is all. I also need to get on the ball with finishing school applications. This means updating my resume, at present. I will have my application for London sent by the end of next week, and my one for Texas at least finished with the online stuff. OR BUST! heh.

The mostr amusing thing is how the meeting broke down at one point into a disucssion of the merits of Firefly and Harry Potter. carl is thew only one who hasn'r seen Firefly (he doesn't watch TV), and Dr. Dudley is the only one who hasn't read Harry Potter. Oh, maybe Dr babits too, but I think he has. Either that or he just sat that one out. Still. I found it terribly amusing, and it seemed like a sign that I've picked a good committee ;)

Now, my house is more or less presentable, but I need to do the dishes, and read more Chartier, and I will call Maria around 5. Probably she will come over a little later than that, but we shall see... I'm thinking I will have chicken, salad, and either frieds or boiled potatos for dinner. Yum!

I feel busy and full of energy to accomplish things! I hope it lasts :o
Mood:: 'energetic' energetic

One of my former students from last year came by to my office hours to chat. Turns out she's applying to your program, and also to TAMU and Bristol, to do maritime archaeology. I told her what I could about ECU and its quirks, and about the joy that is Greenville. :)

Ah, well, I wasn't mentioning the particular profs by name or anything. That kind of thing, she needs to figure out for herself, and my information is second-hand to begin with. I did think it was only fair to point out to her the cultural background and idiosyncrasies of the region, though. ^-^

Mostly I just thought it was a funny coincidence that she's applying to all these places that you're applying to / are at now, although for her it would be at the MA level.
