One thing that [livejournal.com profile] ladyiolanthe forgot in her description of our half naked rock climbing was how we found the stone in the first place! After nearly two hours of wandering the face of the mountain, trying to see if we could guess from our little guide book where the trail might be, and if we were anywhere near it, we decided that *maybe* we weren't high enough up.

We nearly got discouraged as the mist rolled in... We were afraid, briefly, that if we kept going, it would become too thick for us to find our way back. It was pretty easy to see the landmarks most of the time, but we didn't really want to take chances... but then the mist blew away as fast as it had appeared, and we agreed to look around a bit more.

We were getting a bit discouraged, though, because we really didn't know if we were anywhere near where we were supposed to be to find it. Then she saw something she thought might have been it, and I did the only logical thing left to try.

I caught the eye of a nearby sheep, and I asked it. "Bah-ram-ewe!" I intoned, "Bah-ram-ewe! To your breed, your flock, your fleece be true! Sheep be true! Bah-ram ewe!" The sheep mantained eye contact with me, it's bright eyes alert and attentive. "Where is the stupid Finn MacCool Rock? Can you show us?" And then, it took off. It took us *right* to the rock that C thought she had seen.

I exagerate not! It ran towards the stone, loked back, and then took off to another part of the pasture. Yay, thank you sheep. I took it's picture. It had green paint on it. *hop*. *Then* we climbed the rock in our undies. If one of us ever needs a werewolf-like pack name, it can be 'Mounts-Finn's-Stone-Half-Naked' I think the Fianna would approve... both the mythological Irish warriors and the fictional werewolf tribe. I think Finn himself would get a kick out of half-dressed lassies humping their way up his stone, too ^-^

In more mundane news...I've been slacking off these past couple of days. Well, sorta. I've been doing 'active procrastination' stuff. I've been working on my kit again. I've taken my boots as far as I can get them with my limited understanding of cobbling, and lack of thread. I worked on my hose a bit to. I *did* try to tget a book I need/want from the English department, but they apparently don't really have it (grr!). I also went to the bank, and cashed in my euros. 50 euros gave me a little over 27 pounds... So I spent less than ninety pounds on my vacation, which makes me happy enough. The other thing I did today was get my flight home pushed back. My ticked originally said August 9th, which is, well, a little early, and also right in the middle of my excavation. So I got is pushed to September 29th (no flights on the 30th). That's a day before my dissertation is absolutely due, but it will be good enough, I expect. I hope to start writing some parts of it next week, after I do a bit of reviewing the rest of this week. There are, unfortunately, still some parts that i need to research and don't have any idea where to look for. And I need information about continental gravestones in the 18th century and don't know where I can get any! Great steaming piles of crap, that is...

Anyway, I think, that since no one else seems to be around or alive atm, I'm going to read for a bit and then go to sleep... Night all :D

Why did you have to strip down to your undies for the climb up the rock?

Because the rock was wet, and neither of us had good climbing gear, and our pants were really stiff from being wet too. Toes give better traction on tiny, slippery, footholds, and bare legs are more flexible than legs in wet jeans! Miao!
