here I am, in the local library. I'm just doing a quick e-mail check, and I quickly scanned LJ. Don't expect me to leave any comments, though (But Arthur is still adorable).
So far, things here are awesome! Just really really awesome. Some brief highlights/exciting bits:
-I'm liveing on a hip! Ship ship ship! :D
_I'm actaully halfg living on the ship, and half in the museum, where there is access to modern conveiniences like showers, a couple of luncges, DVD players, a kitchen (Tonight's dinner: really damned good roast beef, asperagus, cheesy scalloped potatoes and *cheesecake* for dessert!)
-the first day here we basically stowed our gear and went to a party where there was a keg and kareoke o_O Not so much my thing, but it gives you an idea of the friendlyness of the rest of the crew, who are all awesome :)
-The second day here, we went sailing in the ship'd boats.... Our mission was aborted because of a bunch of different reasons, and instead we drovbe out to the beach where we had a cook-out and spent tha afternoon.
-The next day was the 4th of July. Day off for everyone. I got orientation on safety things and got to climb aloft. Eeeee! and also EeeeeeeK! I did a lot better than I thought I might. I went up three times yesterday.... Up to the fighting top the first time, then to the crosstrees, and then up to the fighting top again to watch fireworks. I wasn't feeeling quite brave enough to go back up to the crosstrees at night. Today, though, I was up on the topyar to reef and furl! Go me :D
-Last night there was a sudden rainstorm, with high winds and lightning. Yes... the ship totally got struck by lightning, while a bunch of us were trying to close all the hatches and furl up the awning that we had over the deck so that it wouldn't get blown away. It was amazing!
-Unfortunately the lightning strike fried a bunch of our important electronics, so we didn't get to go on our daysail. We got orientation stuff this morning (after cleaning the ship), and this afternoon we helped do random stuff to fisx up the ship... in this case resetting the flying jib boom.
Okay, that's al you get for now. Later I will natter on about the various people here, who are all very awesome. Oh, and I somehow got put in the same division as Dr. Babits.... *shrug*, I'll live. Our Mate is super cool though. But really I'm done now.
*huggles* all :)
