Well, I have about a week of free time coming up. I would like to work on a sewing project that I have been planning for some time... My fire skirt! So, here is what I would like to do, and what I've got to work with.
Okay first off, here is my 'plan'. i don't have a pattern, per sey, but this is what I'd like to wind up with, more or less. Pardon my crappy MSPaint skills :p

Here is the fabric! Isn't is shiny?

It is all silk, with the red velvet for the top skirt being red silk velvet. I don't know where I got it, but I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth ;) The big piece on the left is handpainted by a friend of mine, and most of the rest is scavenged from thriftstore finds, and I'll use that for most of the long 'flames'. There are some other bigger orange pieces that came from a dress which you can see peeking out on the botton on the right, and I'll use if for bigger flames as well.
So, here is the plan. I an just going to make the top red velvet part with an elastic wasteband, and the plan is for it to be long enough to cover my butt when the silk 'flames' fly out. Flames are probably just going to be various sizes of triangles. I am thinking of, instead of hemming them individually, just serging the edges in red and yellow thread (so it woudl contrast a bit).... Do people think that would look alright, or just look bad? After this is done, I am hoping to have enough little scraps left over to make some kind of choli to go with it. I will probably try it out on a piece to see what I think, but other imput will be nice.
Thanks for looking... and yes, at some point I will put other pictures up on my LJ. Expect more of them! I have many to share ^-^

I was trying to figure out how to do the skirt, which I only figured out around Christmas, and now I'll actually have a bit of *time*, too!
