I am rying to decide on a few things. there is a conference in Savannah that I kind of want to go to. I am trying to decide if I should/will, if I can get permission from Dr. Ewen (it is heppening the first week of fieldschool).

I am also trying to decide if I want to go on a sailing course or not. The things is, that I don't think I have an out of state tuition waiver for second semester summer, so it would be pretty expensive for that one class. we are talking the difference betwee 200$ oer credit hour in state, and 700 out of state. I am already paying for a 6 credit hour fieldscool clas, which even in state will ruin me about 1200$. A 3 credit hour course at 700 will be 2100$. So... yhou can see my dilemma. it does look like it would be really cool, but on the other hand.... that's a lot of mony for a month of sailing a tall ship. It is not somethig I would need or could even really use for my degree, and I would be away fro the whole month of July, opretty much. I'll also note that I'm going to be moving at the end of that month, one way or another. On the other hand, I could just have all my stuff packed and ready to go when I get back....

Advice? Thoughts?

I do need to confirm about the waiver. If it is only going to cost me 600$, I'll do it for sure.

Now, back to the pirates. Arr!

Obviously, find out about the waiver, as that makes a huge difference. If it turns out to be only $600, I would definitely say you should do it. Even if it's more expensive, you should think about it pretty hard - $2100 is a lot, but not out of line for what you would pay if you wanted to do something like this on your own at a later date. Looking around briefly on the internet, it seems like to sail on a tall ship can cost between $75 and $170 a day (through these folks, for instance). And when will you get another chance like this?

Wasn't there a way you could get a job doing this? I mean, I seem to remember you sending me a link were I could get paid like 400 pounds a month to be on a tall ship crew?

Also you could take the boat over and make back the fee by plundering other ships!
