I don't really know. It isn't a factory date, certainly. And their reasoning for it being a weigh does make logical sense, but it did smack of justification...

I think that if they could find other cannin that had been similarly marked, and compare how they were dated, it would be the best way to test the argument.
It realy doesn't make much sense as a 'chiseled weight pricetag' unless they can show that this was actually done.

But why would someone crudely carve the date in the cannon, either? It is just hard to say.
