I went to see Carl today to work out if I was understanding everything I needed to do for my degree correctly. And as long as I am understanding the immigration rules properly, it seems like I am. I'll go stop by International House tomorrow sometime to make an appointment to figure that out, since I also have a few other questions for them. Like, am I going to be allowed to work more than twenty hours next year, what am I allowed to do over the summer, and is it really okay for me not to be enrolled full time as long as I am registered for thesis hours?
After Fieldschool, I am only going to need three classes in order to graduate. Three! And to be honest, I really only need *two*. And then six credit hours worth of thesis. I could take full semesters... But why? I already do have my MA, afterall. Why bury myself in work? Right now, next year looks like this for me:
Fall:
Conservation
Ancient Regime, French Revolution and Napoleon Course
Thesis
Spring:
Maritime History from ancient time to 1415.
Thesis.
So, in the spring, unless I'm misunderstanding he immigration laws, I am only taking two courses, because then I only have to *pay* for two courses. It might mean that I am not allowed to use the gym. That would be a minor annoyance. it might mess up my library priveledges, but I'm sure I can work around that somehow. Even if I have to pay a little extra for stuff, well... I'm still saving over a thousand dollars in tuition :p
Part of me thinks that since I am only taking one course in the spring, and can use the rest of that time to do my thesis, I may as well take another real course in the fall. But the selection is limited. I could, I suppose, take the reformation course. Really, once you have enrolled in the 9 credit hours you need ot be a full time student, any other courses you take are free. I am basically for my thesis hours in order to have time to work on my thesis... Is that reasonable? Or should I take a real course, have more work and get the hours covered 'free' (I need to have 6 to graduate, and they are 3 per... so I do have to take it twice) and learn more? I mean, I'm still only taking one course in the spring, unless there is somethign absolutely fan-fucking-tastic offered, or because immigration says I have to.
So, anyway, I'm open to suggestoin on this point :) Should I take a class on the Reformation? Should I just read some books instead and keep my schedule as is?
