I don't get it either. I've never had to watch any, really, so I wouldn't know about the comment beyond what I'm told transpires. Frankly, I think it largely is a glamourization of greed and so forth. A lot of the stuff is internal political in nature which is a distortion. I can understand how some people root for certain people to win... it's not so different from cheering on your favourite sports team. It's a competition of sorts, dog eat dog style. I don't personally find anything particularly laudible in that...

Frankly, I also think "Reality TV" is a misnomer. There's no reality to it, except insofar as it is done by real people. They are all, however, edited for maximum ratings impact and therefore more caricatures of themselves in some regards. There are also all kinds of little contractual things that they never bring up on the show that skew things too. I've heard of people losing their jobs because of the secrecy agreements regarding their lengthy absences.

In today's climate, though, most of the climate regarding "the quiet ones" is linked to Columbine. Probably fits in with your seeming disconnect with the general populace. Keep in mind, however, this is not my personal opinion. It's what I think people think of you in general. First impressions and from the viewpoint of a random generic stranger.
