I spent 4 straight hours, possobly more, going through microfice things today! I have spent over 15$ on photocopies! That is over 150 pages photocopied, for the record. And what have I got for it? I have three piracy trials, 1 full and 1 partial sermon by Cooton Mather addressing piracy and pirates, 2 accounts by a couple of guys who happened to be on the same ship when it was taken by pirates (Low and Spriggs! Who are in the general history... and from what I looked through, this confirms Johnson's accont some too! Hooray! *and* they go to Roatan island, which is one of the sites that I am hoping to look at for my thesis.. yesss, this is goood...), and a couple of proclamations that were published in New York. So, on top of this, I have the letters from North and South Carolina, and Virginia (where they didn't have printing presses until the 1790's :p), Johnson, Exquemelin (maybe... I'm not sure what will be applicable from that since I haven't gone through it yet), Snelgrave (interlibrary loan.. *grumble*... gimme my credit card!), and then I have to go through Jameson on microfiche on Friday (why don't they have a paper copy? It always confuses me when UNB has books that other libraries *should* but don't!), and also I should look at the colonial state papers...
I am still trying to figure out how to pull all this stuff together. I thin I will go see carl tomorrow about it all. Sheesh. I have too many sources to deal with :P (if that is really possible... bah!). I need to find a way to focus this stuff. And that is just *primary* sources. I have a nice big stack of secondary ones too...
At least I got started on my presntation yesterday, and was able to confirm that I could write this in my sleep, and do it well enough with pretty much no more preparation that I have already done. In fact, the only reason I should write it al out is to make sue I'm not gong to go *over* my time... What I *should* do (as far as time goes) is just write the paper for my presentation, but that always seems artifical to me. I prefer to speak less formally when I present. That is probably not quite the word I am looking for... But I do think that just reading a paper makes for a less engaging presentation. I'll just skim the newer material that I have to make sure it doesn't disagree with the stuff I already have, anyway, and focus on it more later.
Tonight... well, there is no exia (*shock*!), so, I think I will see about doing some writing that isn't school, and kick around irc and icq and see if anything happens :) Oh yes, and dinner. I bought some french fries, and frozen strawberries. I am thinking of having baked fish and chips, and a smoothie!
Oh, yes, here is a random food segue for your: I think I have a mental block when it comes to foods that are sweetened with 'high fructose corn syrup'. For some reason, even though I suspect it is just a labelling issue (i.e. in Canada, they can just say 'fructose' without listing the source), but when I know that something has corn syrup in it is seems more sweet and cloying and gross. I am having a really hard time finding drinkable juice, because even Ocean Spray does this to me now. Not gonna do me any harm to avoid the extra sugar, I know. but it is hard to find juice that doesn't have any. Seriously. Unless I am at a *real* grocery store, but I only get to do that every couple of weeks... My juice never lasts so long. I can only get the good kind of chocolate milk there too :/
Well. My shoulders are sore today for some-possibly-microfiche-machine-related reason, so I'm going to go lie down a bit before food.
