1. Where does your nick come from?
I made it up. I started using it on a mud waaaaaay back when I first came online. It's been with me ever since. I dn't even know how I *found* the mud, anymore, or what it was called... I just lept it for other things. I think Ryo-ohki first abbeviated it to Lannie, though, based on a Billy Joel(?) song, maybe?
2. What's your favourate polearm, and why? Would it depend on the circumstances you were in?
Well, I like the idea of the big ones, like a halberd, I really do better with something light and fast, like a spear. This is of the ones I've tried and of the ones that I know the style. I haven't tried any of the different asian varieties, for example.
3. Are you more of an introvert or extrovert in RL?
I'm one of those people who is kind of hard to peg. I can be really outgoing, when I have something to say, or if I am with people I already know. A lot of the time, I am just disinterested in interacting with people. I'm not afraid of socializing, I just don't really care. On the other hand, when I am with a new group that I want to break into, I often suspect other of feeling the same, so I can be quiet because I don't thikn people are interested in hearing what I have to say. A lot of it depends on my mood.... So, I don't know? I am probably less extroverted in rreal life than on the 'net, though, if that is what you are asking.
4. How did you get started gaming? (If you'd like to break this up into several types of gaming, be my guest. :)
I was introduced to roleplaying by Joel, who I can quote as saying it is one of the decisions he most regrets doing. Or at least, it was at one point, probably because I do it so much. It was back when I was in grade eleven, I believe... so 1995? I started LARPing shortly afterwards, since Joel and hazel had gotten involved in NERO (fantasy LARP) while I was away at camp. I got involed in the various writing 'rpg's through newsgroups (does anyone remember newsgroups? Do people still use them?) I was introduced to by a friend who was very into Final Fantasy. And when I started hanging out online more, with the FF and Nurpg crowds, I got in with Bart and them... I think that Exia group 2 was my first 'official' online game. Before that, though, the idea of IC chat develloped, both as a way to have characters from the written rpg's interact in purely hypothetical situations, and also to set scenes. We would roleplay out the scene, and use the log to write it up. The crazy amounts of solo time for other games grew more out of that tradition, I think.
5. Do you think intelligent aliens exist in our universe? Our galaxy? Close to us? Do you think they've contacted our planet?
You know, I realy haven't thought much about it. Life in outerspace really doesn't interest me. I suppose it depends on howthe 'laws' of biology, and evolution and such would apply in outher planetary environments. We see sentience and intelligence as something that helps set us apart, or even make us betterm than other living creatures. We tend to see ourselves as a 'higher order'. I'm generalizing here... I don't necessarily believe these things, nor do I assume that all of the people reading this do. but I thik that it is generally true. I don't think that it is necessarily the kind of adaption that is always going to win out, though. I don't know. I would say if there is intelligent life out there, it is probably not all that close to us, though, or we would have seen more concrete signs of it.
Bonus question: You must fight either a bear or a gorilla, each of roughly equal mass to the other. Which do you choose and why?
I think I'd take the bear. They react to simpler stimuli, and you can play dear with them, in theory, and have them leave you more or less alone.
