Okay, I really hope that some of the TO folks are reading this.

Hazel sent me a highly stressed out e-mail this morning, sometime between when I left the house at 7:45 and when I got out of my meeting with my proff at ~8:30. The gist of it was that she couldn't get in to the UK. Apparently the school didn't tell her that there was a form, or piece of paper or *something* that she needed, anyway, and they couldn't let her in without it. I dn't have the details.

When She e-mailed me, she said that they were sending her back to TO in an hour, but the rest of the message implies that maybe they wouldn't (?). I haven't heard from her since.

Anyway, if I get more updates I will inform you all, and otherwise, I hope that is she is on a plane now and due to arrive... at some point? That someone will be able to give her a hand at the airport and with sorting this stuff out in person, which alas, I cannot do. I know my dad said that he would try to get a hold of the British High Comission in Ottawa, but I don't know if any progress has been made with that. I don't know if she has gotten ahold of the school or anything, but she said that they were saying it was her fault (though immigration blamed the school), so apparently there was some kind of communication. the problem is that the entrance requirements have changed in the past year, so probably they didn't send her updated info or whatever. Cocksuckers, anyway. :p

I have to go proctor an exam in an hour, but I will stay here by the computer until I have to go get ready for that. I hope that I will hear from some of the TO crow so that at least you know this is going on, should you be needed to help....

She emailed us as well. She said that she would be arriving back at the airport here at 4:30 this afternoon, and I have now found the flight from Manchester that she would theoretically be on, so unless we hear differently, we'll be there to pick her up.

Well, that is some relief....

Yeah, I guess. There is a British High Commission or consulate or some such here in TO too, in case she needs to go there for some reason.

There is a British High Commission here in TO as well, so if there are things she needs to do in person, we will get her there on Monday. Don't worry, Lannie, we will help sort things out!

Dad faxed their head office too, but again, thanks!

*feels much relief*

I *do* remember something about needing some sort of letter from the University confirming your acceptance. Usually the Uni sends you a list of what you'll need. I hope she gets it sorted out!

This is something beyond that... an additional new requirement. She needs some kind of 'entry certificate' or something. Boo!

I got your email. From what I can tell, all of the forms are downloadable, but until I know exactly what form(s) she needs, it's all a bit moot. Also, it looks likely that she will have to go down in person to actually get them to expedite her getting her entry clearance processed.

Dad says he thinks it is an entry clearance she needs.

Also, I thought I had ot written down but I don't... what is your street address and postal code? 609 huron, apt. ?? M5R 1E?

Yeah, that's what I think too. There were some new rules about those that came into effect last year, from what the internet tells me. They mostly say to mail the application form to Ottawa and wait, though, so we will have to see what strongarm tactics can do down at the Toronto consulate.

Ergh... good luck with that :/ I wish there was something I could actually do :p

That's nuts! Can't she enter on her passport alone until she's able to get it all sorted out? I'm sure Canadians have the right to visit the UK for up to six months, just like we can visit the US for the same period.

Stupid power-mad immigration officer types. :P

I think it is a matter of intent. They know she is going to school, so they can't just let her in with a visitor's visa, because then it would be illegal for her to go to school... And they don't want to just give it to her because... I don't know, that would be too easy? :p Anyway, it is a mostly moot point now.

That's very strange... I had the same problem when I got to the border of Canada, they wanted some piece of paperwork I didn't have for my student visa... but all I had to do was wait an hour while they called and got it faxed!

Good luck to Hazel. :^(

That sounds so far beyond fucked up that the light from fucked up would take 3 years to reach it! I hate bureaucracy especially when you have to rely on someone else to guide you through it. I wish there was more I can do for your sister. The only thing I can think of to show my support is to not watch an BBC shows until they let her in the country. Maybe occasionally yell "cocksucker!" if I see any British royalty or Tony Blair on TV. If there is more I can do let me know.

Suckage! :/

[livejournal.com profile] freakwoman told me about it this evening when we went over to see her. This really bites. I wish I could help somehow too but it seems that things are well in hand with people in TO anyway.

*huggles*
